While we’re still excited about the innovation of the “Waterfall” display found on both the Vivo Nex 3 as well as the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, Xiaomi has taken things a little bit higher than we’d expect.
The concept phone, the Mi Mix Alpha which is said to be sold at about $2,807 has a “Wrap” display which covers the device 4 dimensions and comes with a 100-megapixel of camera. Which is really outstanding.
Tech journalists and bloggers around the world thought the device could actually make it to production this year and even sold while Xiaomi made it known that limited quantities will be put out for sale meanwhile reports has it that Xiaomi is trying to build the Mi Mix Alpha en-mass.
Aside the 4D display device, there is also rumors about the Mi Mix 4 which is said to have a 108-Megapixel camera sensor from Samsung (the same which is present on the Mi Mix Alpha) but rumored reports about the device getting launched this October by JD.com is properly not the case anymore.

Because according to the company’s China brand promotion manager and president of the conference, Edward Bishop who made the confirmation via a post on Weibo said that there won’t be any other Mi Mix series smartphone release this year.
However, the devices that would be launched this October are said to not be part of the Mi Mix series instead, the newly introduced Mi CC series. Which also puts the rumours to rest related to a MIX series smartphone with 16GB RAM by several Chinese publications.
And speaking of record-making, the Mi Mix Alpha is the first smartphone with a curve display that wraps all around the device’s body leaving out only the camera and the branding strip which signifies the back of the device.
This is a single display panel of 7.92-inch that wraps around the entire body bringing the screen to body ratio to a staggering 180.6%! This is made possible also because of the extremely narrow 2.15mm bezels on the top and the bottom.
The device is confirmed to be powered by the Snapdragon 855+ processor with 5G dual SIM support. There will be at least one version with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.0 storage. The battery isn’t very large at 4,050mAh but it does support 40W fast charging just like the Mi 9 Pro 5G.

Also this is the first smartphone in the world to have a 100-MP camera sensor because of the Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX 108MP camera sensor at the back of the smartphone. The sensor was developed in close collaboration with Xiaomi, hence it’s no surprise that we are seeing it first on the Mi Mix Alpha 5G.
The 108MP primary sensor on the Mi Mix Alpha is ultra-large with a 1/1.33″ sensor which is capable of outputting 12032 x 9024-pixel resolution images. It is coupled with a 12MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom and a 20MP ultra-wide-angle camera lens.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha will be produced on a very small scale on a trial basis at first. The company has priced it at a staggering 19,999 Yuan (~$2814), which is even more than Samsung’s new foldable smartphone.
That is mainly the selling point of the device right now. The beauty of it and how well it’s camera is made. Meanwhile, other concerns I have with the device includes the build quality of the screen as well as how to place it on surfaces. It probably isn’t made of Gorilla Glass but plastic considering the fact that Glass doesn’t blend or…Xiaomi might have engineered a way of making the glass wrap around the device without breaking you….Which is left for you to keep it ultra safe without scratching or damaging it whenever it’s in your back pocket for example.
