Back in 2012 when Elon Musk made a casual announcement about his company’s ambition in entering the Truck/SUV market, he wasn’t joking and the Friday unveiling of the Cybertruck proves that point. When the vehicle was eventually driven on the stage, it was really jaw dropping. Jaw dropping in the sense that people either loved it straight ahead or outright hate it.

Despite being so amusing, there are things that sets it apart from the likes of the Ford F-150 for example. Majority of trucks always looked the same and old which isn’t really going to give Tesla to rake in it’s own audience in the market. There is a need to standout and that was well thought out by the company which is why the Cybertruck will be a truly memorable vehicle and would pave way for other oddly looking vehicles in the future whereby car makers will be thinking out of the box.

But what sets this ‘Box on Wheel” apart from the rest? Is it because it looks like a Sci-Fi movie car prop or because it is super affordable despite being feature-rich or is it just because it’s a Tesla. Well, let’s examine what makes it different in this short post.

1. THE ATV ACCOMPLICE

Elon Musk presents finally before rounding up the Cybertruck unveiling with an accomplice which is an ATV that charges in the bed of the truck. It was last shown as it was driven onto the truck. The back cover slide open revealing the spacious bed.

Few if any details about the ATV were offered, so this may be about as serious as a flamethrower, but it was definitely one more thing.  

2. WHAT ARE THE SPECIFICATIONS

There will be three models of the Tesla Cybertruck with the base model starting at just $39,900 even though that pricing will change as you add more options such as Self driving, Solar charging and color among others.

Strength seems to be the selling point of this car as it will deliver a whooping 14,000 pounds of payload and it can carry objects of about 1000 pounds. It’s also fast enough.

3. STAINLESS STEEL ALLOY BODY

Tesla Cybertruck wins in this area as it’s made with some of the reusable stainless steel alloy used in making some SpaceX rockets which makes it truly strong and can resist some hit. Elon Musk even tried this out live on stage while asking his lead designer to smash the door of a traditional car with a sledgehammer and then proceeding to do the same to the Cybertruck’s door but nothing was obvious on the body.

Aside the Alpha strength the car portrayed during a tug of war with the Ford F-150 where the Tesla Cybertruck succeeded by dragging the Ford truck away, the cybertruck’s exoskeleton will also house a solar charging panel option which Elon Musk confirmed.

4. REALLY WEIRD DESIGN

Yeah the Tesla Cybertruck is really weird. I’ve seen loads of comments online all attributing this with absolute genuine thinking and design while others just think it’s not sexy at all. Personally I like the weird design of the Cybertruck but one obvious thing is that Tesla cars generally aren’t always sexy if you look at their entire product line.

The interior is really different too with the dashboard just plain and edgy without any curve whatsoever. The design reminds me of the Lamborghini Coutach which looked as though it was measured with a ruler at every design parts of the car. The Tesla Cybertruck is a very minimalist truck without too much obsessive design whatsoever. I bet the designer never spent time drawing this on a whiteboard.

5. SUPPOSED ARMORED GLASS

Although this failed not badly though as there wasn’t a thorough penetration while the glass cracked during the live demonstration while the Cybertruck was unveiled, the glass is meant to be unbreakable making it match up with the Stainless steel alloy body which was resistant to a sledgehammer strike.

All the glass that were tried all broke during the live demo which made the car look bad which disappointed Elon Musk obviously.

Even though Elon Musk doesn’t really appear to be very surprised which made me wonder if they never tested this before bringing on stage. I mean what’s the need to make a new product which is going to face a really massive competition with such petty downfall. After all the armor body had been tested and it passed that test, they could have stopped just there right?

I personally like the truck and it would be completely strange when someone suddenly see me driving this on the road somewhere. I labelled it a “Box on wheel” because of it’s design. Meanwhile, the car is already making good sales according to Elon Musk, it has made about 140 thousand orders just under 48 hours or release.
