Earlier this year, the Samsung Galaxy Fold was the trend and the uniqueness was really outstanding. But it’s like Samsung isn’t just going to stop right there because a new patent shows that Samsung is even planning on something much more tech-driven and it’s a distinctive handset that features a sliding touch screen display which can conceal the top bezel. If that sounds like a misery to you, you can check out the renders below which showed the patent as an image.

As you can see, this device features a flexible display which is attached to a rather complex rack & pinion mechanism which allows the screen to slide upwards and downwards which can therefore hide or reveal the bezel above the display where the selfie camera and earpiece are hidden.
Xiaomi did something like this before with the Mi Mix 3 but the difference is that rather than the whole display assembly sliding up or downwards as in the case of the Xiaomi’s device, the Samsung’s patent device has a movable flexible display which is a completely different implementation. Check out the images below for more details.

As you can see in the images above, the screen slides inside the device whenever user receives an audio/video call to reveal the earpiece or the front facing camera.

We don’t know for sure if there is any other interesting thing this screen does aside just sliding it downwards which in turns slides within the device to reveal the camera/earpiece but it’s like Samsung is trying to develop a device with a much more smaller frames with a high screen-to-body ratio which gives an elegant look as with the case of the Galaxy Note 10 Series or the Galaxy S10 Series.

To wrap things up, the concept behind the patent definitely looks intriguing, however, it cannot be confirmed whether this particular device will see the light of the day or not. Presumably, the technology could make its way to future offerings from the company for which we will have to wait patiently.
