Even though we’re still in the dawn of the iOS 15xx, there have been reports and rumors about the next-gen iOS 16 thought to debut in 2022.

However, the sad news is that a number of devices that are older than 5-years will likely not get the update according to a report.

One good advantage about Apple’s products is the fact that users are offered free OS upgrades for several years after the purchase of their devices such as the iPhone or the iPads.

However, there are often older devices that don’t just have the capacity to run newer OS, especially those based on A8 and the A9/A9x Bionic processors.

According to a report gotten from iPhoneSoft, if you’re still using the iPhone 6s or the iPhone 6s Plus that was released back in 2015 or even the iPhone SE (1st gen released in 2016), you can kiss the iOS 16 update bye-bye.

Both iOS 14 and 15 updates were able to run on these devices and it could come as shocking news to those who own these devices.

The iPod touch 7 (2019), Apple’s last PDA, will get iOS 16.

4 iPad models that will not get the iPadOS 16 update

As for the iPad models that will not receive the iOS 16 update, the report from the same source also has it that older Apple tablets such as the iPad Air 2 that was released in 2014, iPad mini 4, iPad Pro 9.7, and the 12.9-inch iPad Pro all of which were released in 2015 and the more recent iPad 5 released in 2017 will not receive iPadOS 16 updates.

According to the report, it’s very likely that Apple will announce the new operating systems as soon as June 2022 while rolling the updates out to eligible devices a month later.
