When the news about Samsung ditching the Galaxy Note 22 series was announced due to chip shortage, many were disappointed but the positive reception of the new Galaxy Z series meant that the South Korean giant can always make a successful switch to a different product line all together.
Although this isn’t official, there have been numerous news telling us that the Galaxy Note series will make a return by the year 2022 but not entirely as a “Galaxy Note”.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra will reportedly be the next-gen Galazy Note and will in fact be called that.
There was a recent benchmark of the version of the Galaxy S22 Ultra AKA Galaxy Note 22 which gave a hint about what to expect of the high-end flagship device when it finally make its debut next year.
What’s certain, however, is that the Galaxy/Note 22’s FCC certification listing finally appeared and it confirms quite a lot about the device.

Galaxy S22 Ultra/Note 22 S Pen
One thing that makes the Galaxy Note series different from the rest is the presence of the S-Pen and now, the next-gen Galaxy S22 Ultra AKA Note 22 will reportedly have this out of the box.
This won’t be the first time we’ll be seeing a Galaxy S series smartphone having support for the S-Pen as the current Galaxy S21 Ultra already do even though the stylus pen is just an add-on rather than an integral part of the device’s hardware.
According to reports, the Galaxy Note 22/S22 Ultra with the model number SM-S908U is said to feature an S-Pen out of the box.
The said S-Pen’s model number is EJ-PS908 which is unlike any other S Pen registered so far. This is causing a mainstream speculation that Samsung might be shipping the next-gen S22 Ultra/Note 22 with the custom-made stylus pen.
The obligatory FCC approval label for wave-emitting devices obviously wouldn’t fit on an S Pen, so Samsung has advised the FCC it will include it in “Settings -> About phone -> Status Information S Pen FCC Certification.”
This information allegedly confirms the presence of the S-pen as an integral hardware for the premium flagship that Samsung will debut next year.
Although it’s no longer a new that the company is trying to merge both high-end devices together, one of the reasons for such can be traced back to the global chip shortage.
Another interesting clue is the LED View Cover case for the device that was also approved by the FCC under the EFNS908 model number.
Galaxy S22 Ultra will look boxy
In terms of the design of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the device will reportedly look boxy just like the design aesthetics that the Galaxy Note series always had compared to the rounded corner shape seen on the Galaxy S series,
Leaker Ice Universe once mentioned that there will be a new Galaxy S22 series with a design with a change in its aspect ratio from 20:9 to a slightly wider 19.3:9 which will improve its screen-to-body ratio.
Other tipsters also mentioned that the device will have a slightly thicker bottom bezel than what is seen on the normal S22 and the S22+ models.
What even explained the initial rumor are three pieces of screen protectors alleged to be for the Galaxy S22 series with the first one being for the base model – S22, the middle one for the S22+ while the boxy one for the S22 Ultra or the Galaxy Note 22.
The device’s extra-larger design meant more space to put in more components such as the stylus pen and a bigger battery.
The base and mid-range Galaxy S22 series will both reportedly sport “slightly” smaller batteries compared to their predecessor while the high-end variant will have a bigger 5000mAh battery…hopefully.
That battery fact already got tangentially confirmed by none other than an FCC listing again, when the S22+ popped up there with a 4500mAh battery, instead of the 4800mAh unit of its predecessor.
