That headline might have caught your attention and that’s the truth because we’re told to expect some pretty nice features from the next-generation iPhone 13 series when it debuts by September.
Interesting things such as a high refresh rate, some additional features to the camera software and hardware as well as some tweaks to the overall design of the devices in general such as the reduction of the notch and so forth.
If Apple can be generous enough to include a 120Hz refresh rate to the “Pro” versions of the iPhone 13 series, it might not be a bad idea since the high-end are usually the ones ridden with numerous features so that customers can buy them.
So below are 7 rumored features we found online that might make it to the iPhone 13 series when it debuts later on this year – just note that these features/specifications are just based on rumors so some or none might make it to the actual product.
Smaller iPhone 13 notch
This is the first feature that’s been rumored a lot lately basically due to how old the notch feels on the iPhone. Considering the fact that iPhones are still the only adamant smartphones still using the notch – something which Android devices have used and left behind.
Even though Apple is still latching on to the Face ID technology, that might still be the reason for the survival of the notch on the iPhone even though rumors have it that Apple might just shrink the notch a bit which might be cool to know. At least there will be more room for notification and other peripheral features at the top bar of the device.
120Hz ProMotion displays
Even a cheap Redmi Note 10 Pro that costs a fraction of the current iPhone 12 Pro Max comes with a 120Hz AMOLED display and that should be the standard for a US$1000+ iPhone 13 Pro Max.
There was also an earlier report about Apple utilizing an LTPO technology manufactured by Samsung which will help scale the high refresh rate from 120Hz to just 1Hz depending on what the user is doing in order to save battery.
The overall benefit of 120Hz displays is that it enables smoother scrolling, as well as better movie playback and games. However, the titles need to be optimized for 120Hz playback, which we suspect will not be an issue for Apple given its focus on working with developers to roll out new features.
A15 Bionic chipset
That translates to speed and power efficiency. It’s very likely that Apple will make use of the A15 Bionic chipset to further enhance the performances of the iPhone 13 series as well as boosting its 5G connectivity and so much more.
The current A14 Bionic chip is based on the 5nm process and that could be the same process used in the A15 Bionic chipset. It’s expected to bring the speed of the iPhone 13 series close – if not above other faster processors such as the Snapdragon 895.
Faster 5G, no problem!
While 5G on an iPhone might no longer make a headline, it’s obvious that there is room for improvement and that’s what Apple will be doing with the next-gen iPhone 13 series according to some reports.
If Apple uses the Snapdragon X60 modem, its 5G capability from both mmWave and sub-6GHz bands simultaneously will be a big win for the iPhone 13, and that will, in turn, be a speedy device in terms of internet connection even though 5G isn’t global just yet.
Expect better cameras of course
Good cameras are some of the best things the iPhones are known for and being able to stand next to other big camera phones on the market such as Huawei Mate 40 Pro or the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra meant that Apple have taken a handful of consideration in the camera department of the iPhone.
And that will never change but get better this year with the release of the iPhone 13 series as reports have it that the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max will both offer upgraded ultra-wide angle lens on the device as well as a 6p lens which should help create brighter images with fewer distortions – hopefully. Plus, the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max could be upgrading to a larger main sensor with 1.9um pixels, which should help in low light.
Portrait mode video and astrophotography
You might be able to shoot for the stars this time around with the iPhone 13 camera but what’s more practical is the portrait mode for video recording and that will be cool considering the influence platforms like TikTok now have in video consumption. The perk of having this feature includes bokeh blur and more focus on the subject during video shooting and that will make services like Zoom or FaceTime calls virtual background easy and fun to add up.
Always-on display
It won’t be bad to have considering the fact that Apple now utilizes OLED panels on their devices. A report from Bloomberg has it that Apple might be utilizing this technology just as we’ve seen on the Watch Series 6 and the implementation might include showing quick time and battery percentage as well as notifications at a glance.
And yeah those are the 7 rumors we found on the internet and if all of these features make it to the iPhone 13 series, it will be fascinating at least for the price you’ll be paying for the device.
