The US President Donald Trump made a revelation to the Washington Post about the authorization of a cyberattack on the Russian Internet Research Agency (IRA) back in 2018 making it the time the President will be acknowledging the issue.
President Trump said during the interview with Marc Thiessen who is a Washington Post’s Columnist where he confirmed that the attack started on the day of the 2018 mid-term and was successful in disrupting a disinformation campaign by Russia which was meant to raise doubt about the mid-term results.
“Look, we stopped it,” the president told Thiessen.
The IRA had previously been linked with manipulating the general public back in 2016 during the general election as well as stealing emails from the Democratic National Committee. Meanwhile the President has in the past questioned if the Russians really did meddle with the DNC hack despite the fact that there were evidences from American Intelligence services showing that Russia was responsible.

Trump further made it known that the former US President Barack Obama was also aware of the issue but dud little to prevent the hacking attempts. Meanwhile The Washington Post has itself stated clearly in the past that former president Obama called out the Russian government due to the DNC hack as well as suggesting Vladmir Putin, Russian President to be directly involved in the attack. In December 2016, Obama imposed sanctions on Russia over the election hacking.
