Great photographs are a result of great cameras and despite the fact that mirrorless cameras are taking over from DSLRs in recent times, Nikon probably never forgets about it’s customer base especially pushing a really great product out to us once again.

The new Nikon D780 is an awesome camera expected to be on sales by the end of January for as high as $2,800 for the full kit which includes the AF-S Nikkor 24-120mm f/4G ED VR lens or just pay as low as $2,300 for the body only.

The new camera uses the very same 24.5MP ful frame sensor found on the X6 though it’s now gained a much 273-point phase detection autofocus in live view as well as smart tracking and higher quality video capabilities. The latter includes slow motion, 10-bit HLG recording (not in-camera) and 4K/30p with full pixel readout.

As for upgrade over the previous D750, the new D780 offers much more specifications that makes it slightly better. For example, it now has an upgraded algorithm that gives it’s optical viewfinder a better optimization and then the continuous shooting is now slightly faster than the D750 getting up to as high as 7 frames per seconds from 6.5 (12 fps in live view with electronic shutter); the shutter is a little faster as well, hitting a maximum of 1/8,000 second.

The D780 has better weather sealing, but to achieve it Nikon jettisoned the on-camera flash. Other physical changes include USB-C (works for charging), Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (with direct connect to a PC) and a slightly larger LCD.

This is absolutely an upgrade I’d consider and the fact this produces a super high-res video quality makes it superb for vlogging and general videographies. We expect to see the D780 in the market later this month and be able to test it out completely to see how easy it is to get familiar with the gadget.
