Microsoft has reportedly made a contact with owners of Pinterest in an attempt to acquire the social network according to The Financial Times. The report has it that Microsoft had approached the photo sharing service about a deal which apparently broke down.
However, if a deal had been reached, this would have skyrocketed Pinterest’s valuation to about US$51 billion and would have been Microsoft’s biggest acquisition till date.
One report has it that Microsoft’s desperation to bring more enterprise users to its Azure cloud network could be the reason for the attempted acquisition. The cloud computing market tis currently held by Amazon’s AWS and a big service like Pinterest on the side of Microsoft’s Azure might help its reputation grow better
This won’t be the first time that we’ll be seeing the Windows inventor trying to buy up a big social media platform because it made a similar attempt with TikTok just last year.

But since Satya Nadella has become CEO, Microsoft has made some pretty decent acquisitions in recent times such as the likes of GitHub which was acquired for US$7.5 billion and also a US$26.2 billion acquisition of LinkedIn. There is also a late-stage acquisition of Bethesda valued at about US$7.5 billion.
