Even before the release of the iPhone 13 series back in 2021, there have been numerous stories circulating across the internet about the next-gen iPhone 14 series, and the rumor is getting much more intense as days get by.
Although we’re still literally months away from the iPhone 14’s release, that doesn’t stop bloggers and Twitter personalities from sharing pictures of leaks and rumors about what to expect as far as the next-gen iPhone 14 series is concerned. So without further ado, below are rumors of the iPhone 14.
The first thing though is that the iPhone 14 series will still come in four different models. There claims that Apple might be ditching the smaller iPhone “Mini” variant but that may not be so.
Rumor says the device models will include iPhone 14 and 14 Max, then an iPhone 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max. So the “Mini” is sort of out of the picture. We can’t confirm these claims for now until the time of release later in the Fall of 2022.

The high-end iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max are said to feature a bigger camera bump from 12MP to 48MP wide primary sensor. More rumors have it that Apple might be bringing back the TouchID technology beneath the device’s display and will be giving up the notch for the first time on the “Pro” models.
In terms of protection, the high-end variants are also expected to be made with durable titanium alloy body and while the design will remain similar to the current iPhone 13 series, the changes may be from the front.

Four iPhone 14 series?
Apple started releasing four smartphones since the introduction of the iPhone 12 Mini back in 2020 and while there were rumors that the sales of the “Mini” variants aren’t up to Apple’s standard, there were claims that the American company may discontinue the line by iPhone 14 series.
However, there are still reports that there could be 4 iPhone 14 series – two base models (iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max) and then two premium models (iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max). The only missing part is the iPhone 14 Mini which isn’t surprising at all.
According to popular Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo based on an April research note obtained by MacRumors suggested that the “Mini” variant might be gone for good even though Kuo made it known that there could still be four iPhone 14 models just as mentioned above – two base models and two premium models.
Screen sizes of the iPhone 14 series
As far as display size is concerned, Apple will reportedly stick with the same size as its current iPhone 13 series except for the “Mini” which is being excluded.
Apple has bumped up the screen sizes of its recent iPhone lineups to 6.1 for non-pro and the pro models while the Pro max variant has been bumped to a bigger 6.7-inch panel.
An older report from Nikkei Asian Review has it that the Cupertino-based tech giant will stick with this same display size meaning the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Pro will both have a similar 6.1-inch display while the iPhone 14 Max and the iPhone 14 Pro Max will both sport a bigger 6.7-inch display.
Notice the difference being the presence of “Pro” to differentiate the base models from the premium models.
Will iPhone 14 be SIM-less
This part is the most interesting one. There were reports that Apple could yank off SIM card support on the iPhone 14 series and while Apple is known for constantly removing vital features from its devices and reselling them back as an add-on to its customers, this sort of decision won’t be surprising if the company decide to go that route.
There was in fact a report according to MacRumors that has it that the next-gen iPhone 15 could go physically SIM-less while the company is preparing major carriers for eSIM-only smartphones by September.
In fact, DylanDKT, a renowned Apple leaker confirmed that the company is reportedly “in agreement” with carriers in an attempt to yank off physical SIM card support.
Rumored screen sizes of the iPhone 14 series
iPhone 14 | 6.1 inch |
---|---|
iPhone 14 Pro | 6.1 inch |
iPhone 14 Max | 6.7 inch |
iPhone 14 Pro Max | 6.7 inch |
When will iPhone 14 be released?
Apple usually releases its flagship devices in Fall and that is expected to be the case in 2022 as well. Even though there was a month delay to the release of the iPhone 12 back in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the company quickly went back to its usual schedule the following year which was September.
The release schedule is expected to either be on a Tuesday or Wednesday – considering the fact that the company’s previous announcement was held on a Tuesday, Sept. 14th.
And as for shipping, the devices are usually expected to start reaching stores about the third week within the same month. The iPhone 13 series’ pre-order started on Sept. 17th and sales started on Sept. 24th.
How much will the iPhone 14 cost?
As far as the price tag is concerned, there isn’t any rumor about that but what we know for sure is that the high-end “Pro” models will be within the US$1,000 price point while the base models will be within the US$700 price mark.
If we’re to compare with the previous models, the iPhone 13 Pro Max which was the highest variant was sold at about US$1,099 up to US$1,599 for the maxed-out version even though Kuo believes that the big device might have a price drop this year to about US$900 as its starting price.
Price table of iPhone 13 series
128GB | 256GB | 512GB | 1TB | |
---|---|---|---|---|
iPhone 13 Mini | $699 | $799 | $999 | NA |
iPhone 13 | $799 | $899 | $1,099 | NA |
iPhone 13 Pro | $999 | $1,099 | $1,299 | $1,499 |
iPhone 13 Pro Max | $1,099 | $1,199 | $1,399 | $1,599 |
How good will the camera of the iPhone 14 be?
The most interesting part is the camera features expected with the iPhone 14 series. According to reports especially the one from Ming-Chi Kuo, the renowned Apple analyst, he believes the company might be upgrading the camera hardware of the high-end iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max to 48MP this year.
The setup on the pro models is expected to still be three with the primary sensor being a 48MP wide lens, then a 12MP ultra-wide, and lastly, another 12MP telephoto lens.
Another analyst Ross Young suggested that the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max will have a hole-and-pill shaped camera cut-out for the device’s front-facing sensors (including the device’s Face ID).
According to reports, the hole cutout is said to accommodate the device’s Face ID dot projector, and the pill-shaped cutout will hold the device’s front camera snd Face ID sensor.
There are also suggestions that the device could sport an 8GB of RAM which is a bump from the 6GB of RAM on the current iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max.
The majority of the camera upgrades found on the iPhone 13 series were in their image processing capabilities and the addition of different software components such as Cinematic mode, ProRes video, and some improved zooming capabilities.
The inclusion of Lidar sensors across the lineup was reported back in 2020 but only made it on the high-end iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max. However, it’s suggested that this could be included across the board as far as the iPhone 14 series is concerned in 2022.
When it comes to zooming, Samsung’s devices are leading thanks to the 10x optical zoom capacity of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The highest the iPhone 13 Pro Max can do is 3x. With that, we’re looking forward to better zooming capabilities on the iPhone 14 series.

Is TouchID coming to iPhone 14?
There were rumors that Apple may just succumb and give its users the TouchID on its premium-tier iPhones and that rumor has been in the news since 2020 during the pandemic – because many people were wearing masks everywhere.
But to date, there seems to be no news about a TouchID and even though the company is said to be planning on ditching the notch on its high-end iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, both devices will still have the FaceID sensors included which may oust the potential of including a TouchID.
Kuo on the other hand predicted that TouchID may never be on a premium iPhone until the year 2023 so we may have to wait until the next-gen iPhone 15 series.
Is the iPhone 14 finally going notchless?
Jon Prosser has notoriously shared news about the iPhone 14 coming sans a notch. He in fact released a couple of leaks that made headlines late last year.
The render released and shared by Jon Prosser showed a unique design aesthetics with the presence of two holes – the first being a regular circular hole while the second was a pill-shaped hole thought to house both the FaceID and front-facing camera sensors.
While Apple has held on to the notch for so long, we thought the company might be ousting it for the first time back in 2021 when it debuted the iPhone 13 series but it instead reduced the notch just a bit.
However, a popular Apple reporter Mark Gurman of Bloomberg hinted at a total redesign of the iPhone 14 series in a September edition of his Power On newsletter.
There is a divided group as far as the removal of the notch is concerned – the first group believes that there will be no notch but a hole-punch on the high-end iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max while the notch will remain on the base models. And the second group believes the notch will be totally removed on both models (base and high-end) whereas the high-end variants will only have the dual sensor cut-out (O and the Pill-shaped cutout).
Although it’s uncertain whether this rumor will become reality, a February report from Taiwan Economic Times (via MacRumors) suggests the iPhone 14 Pro’s design has been finalized as it enters the early stages of manufacturing.

No camera bumps and no USB-C either
Apple sort of changed the game back in 2019 with the release of the iPhone 11 thanks to the design of its camera bump. But new reports have it that the back of the iPhone 14 will be totally flat.
This report is based on Jon Prosser’s render. This could mean two things – the first thing is that Apple has managed to crank up the camera sensors and components within the device while retaining the thickness of the device or it will increase the device’s thickness a little bit in order to accommodate the camera components.
Most people may find that interesting as the iPhone 14 can lay on a flat surface without wobbling around.
As for the death of the Lightning Port, that may not be now even though there were reports that Apple may be forced by the EU to add a USB-C port on the iPhone 14.
There were rumors that Apple might even go completely portless – and I won’t be surprised because the company yanked off power bricks when it began the introduction of its MagSafe technology. It might just step it up a bit and make the iPhone 14 completely portless.
Color options of the iPhone 14 series
Jon Prosser stated that there could be a pale gold color even though there are reports that Apple may still be working on the device’s colors.
Better battery life
The battery life of the device is another interesting expectation and according to reports, the device is expected to offer an improved battery life while the majority of the power conservation and efficiency will be software-based.
Wi-Fi 6E adoption
There are rumors that Apple could equip the iPhone 14 series with Wi-Fi 6E even though analyst Kuo believes the components needed for this technology may be in short supply at the moment.
A16 chip
While the high-end variants are expected to sport the powerful A16 Bionic chipset, the base models are expected to retain the A15 Bionic chips.
120Hz ProMotion display
120Hz ProMotion display was only present on the high-end iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max last year. But we hope the story will be different this time around even though Young believes that Apple might continue to retain the ProMotion feature on its high-end models because the company’s LTPO OLED display supplier BOE may not have the capacity to meet such a huge demand.
5G connectivity
iPhone 14 series with 5G shouldn’t be surprising. Even older iPhone 12 and 13 models have it plus this is 2022!
And that’s all we know so far about the fourth-coming iPhone 14 series even though that isn’t all that is there to be known. In the near future, more reports, leaks, and rumors will be announced and published on our website.
