Smartphones are becoming really important to over everyday lives from fun to professional tasks, these small computers have it all covered but what is even amazing is the fact that medical doctors can also make use of them to make medical examinations – how wonderful.
Recently, an ophthalmologist used his newly acquired iPhone 13 Pro Max to conduct medical examinations on his patient.
The recently announced iPhone 13 Pro Max is the biggest in the series and it’s equipped with big sensors. The most important one is the macro camera which was used by Doctor Tommy Korn.
The macro feature allows users to take really close-up pictures and videos of objects. The particular sensor responsible for this is the device’s telephoto sensor with features such as 12 MP, f/2.8 aperture, OIS, and 3x optical zoom.

Doctor Korn shared the details of his new tool in a LinkedIn post where he revealed that he has been using the iPhone 13 Pro Max to check his patient’s eye using the Macro Mode.
With this feature, he’s able to capture a detailed image of the eye which allows him to observe and record important details about his patient’s eye.
He shared two pictures of a patient’s eye where the patient had a cornea transplant and needs a constant check if the abrasion is being healed.
The iPhone 13 Pro Max is known to enjoy the biggest upgrade – sporting larger sensors and a triple setup that allow the device to capture really great pictures and then the new macro mode which can even be used by medical practitioners.
The macro mode also works for video as well and it can be used in slow-mo and in time-lapse both of which can be useful when filming tiny creatures for example.
The switch between standard and macro mode is immediate and it’s done by the software whenever it sees an object getting really close. It focuses the lens on the object in other to capture every piece of it.
A future software upgrade to the device’s operating system will include a manual switch that users can easily toggle but this is another big PR for the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
