The release of the iPhone 12 series is in the news and that is not going anywhere until we all see what the smartphone will be all about. But the latest development according to leaks from tipster and Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is that the iPhone 12 battery capacity might be not good as the company tries to maintain a reasonable price point for a 5G flagship smartphone.

If peradventure, the iPhone 12 come with the 5G technology, this will be the first flagship the company will release with such capacity and that is a good thing to think of. But one common thing about 5G smartphones is that they can be a bit pricey especially in the flagship region.

While there are numerous mid-range smartphones with 5G but with moderate price tag on them, we all know Apple devices are usually top-notch and as such will require buyers paying top dollars to own one of them but the inclusion of the 5G and other high tech is definitely going to hike the price tag right up the roof which is why the company is looking to make a trade-off which could be with the battery.

According to Kuo, the suppliers data showed that the cost of the iPhone could rise by US$85 as the company look to add sub-6 5G support or US$135 for adding millimetre-wave. But as the company look to moderate the price tag of it’s flagship, it might be doing it by moderating the battery capacity of it’s device.

But one thing for sure is that the iOS 14 will further help out in this quest as the company looked to make it more battery efficient just as with the current iOS 13 series which was able to manage battery much more better. But Apple will definitely not want to compromise too much since battery life is really essential in the quality of a smartphone.

But also, there could be variants of 5G and non 5G which could mean user get the option to swap out which device to buy. Usually, the entry-level among the premium iPhones since the iPhone XR usually have a much more powerful battery because of lesser components in it such as the display and other addons and so could be the case with the iPhone 12 series.

That said, this could cut down Apple’s battery cost by 40% to 50% unlike the iPhone 11 series and the company is reportedly going to abandon it’s hardboard design for a soft board battery design but all these are just unofficial reports so don’t take it too personal just yet.
