Xiaomi has finally done it by becoming the second-largest smartphone vendor based on global shipments in the Q2 of the year 2021 according to a new report from Canalys. With this, the Chinese tech company was able to capture about 17% of the global market share which places it right next to Samsung with 19% as Apple claimed the third position with 14%.

Then there are other Chinese brands on the list such as Oppo and Vivo taking the fifth position with a 10% share. Xiaomi on the other hand has grown exponentially over the last couple of years becoming the biggest threat to Huawei even in the local market.

The company was able to ship 83% more smartphones in Q2 2020 while top smartphone brands like Samsung grew shipments by 15% and Apple was just 1%.

“Xiaomi is growing its overseas business rapidly,” Canalys Research Manager Ben Stanton says, citing sales boosts in regions including Western Europe, Africa, and Latin America. “It is still largely skewed toward the mass market, however, and compared with Samsung and Apple, its average selling price is around 40% and 75% cheaper respectively. So a major priority for Xiaomi this year is to grow sales of its high-end devices, such as the Mi 11 Ultra.”

Canalys made it known that smartphone shipments grew by 12% last quarter and the fact that Huawei seems to have vacated this position gave rise to Xiaomi seizing the opportunity to grow its brand globally in the place of its local rival Huawei.
