Earlier, we reported that Google planned to reopen it’s offices by July 6th which is in few days time, but the search giant is backtracking on it’s plan after the Coronavirus cases across the country have surged exponentially over the past few weeks according to a new report gotten from Bloomberg. In short, Google has postponed office reopening until September 7th.

According to an internal memo which was sent by the company’s executives to employees, the company said it’s offices will remain closed until at least September 7th despite plans to reopen at the early days of this month of July. The new announcement means another two months postponement.

“While conditions do vary from state to state, we need to see that the US outlook as a whole is stable before we move forward,” VP of Global Security Chris Rackow wrote in the memo. “As the recent resurgence of cases demonstrates, COVID-19 is still very much alive in our communities.”

“For all of you that are working from home, please continue to do so unless you are told otherwise by your manager,” Rackow continued. “We don’t expect this guidance to change until Monday, September 7 (Labor Day) at the earliest.”

Back in March, Google alongside other tech giants like Apple, Microsoft and Twitter asked it’s employees to work from home as cases of the COVID-19 began rising back then. As at that time, there were little than 1,000 known cases of Coronavirus in the entire United States but as at now, the number had jumped to over 2.7 million cases making it one of the worst pandemic in the 21st century.

As Google postponed office reopening, this means it’s workers continues working remotely something which the company had encouraged since the beginning of the lockdown whereby it also vow to pay up to US$1000 of device and work equipment costs for employees who needs such help.

One of the reason assumed causes for the surge in new cases of the pandemic which some attribute to being the second wave of the Coronavirus Pandemic is due to the violation of the social distancing practices which was put in place earlier on back in April where everyone was asked to remain indoor but then George Floyd was killed by a bad police officer which prompted a nationwide protest which ultimately brought people together as rumor has it this might have caused the new surge in cases of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The current number of cases is about 10,644,331 cases worldwide with active cases being 4,286,036 and 515,412 deaths around the world making the Covid-19 one of the worst pandemic in the 21st century which has caused a big economic devastation all around the world whereby millions of jobs had been lost while crippling numerous economies.
