Facebook acquired Oculus VR and now it’s also acquiring Beat Games which made the popular VR game called the Beat Saber. The Czech based game company will now be joining Facebook’s Oculus Studio team but “as an independently operated studio” in a bid to “bring VR to more people around the world.”
The news of the Acquisition was made public through the Oculus blog where Facebook promised that the merging won’t have any effect on Beat Saber’s plan for the immediate future which means the game is still receiving the 360° Levels mode in December, with more music on the cards as well.

As to why this particular studio was marked for acquisition, Director of AR/VR Content Mike Verdu says “Beat Games is a strong team with proven potential across VR, games, and music.”
“With the resources and know-how that we can offer,” he adds, “Beat Games will be able to accelerate, adding more music and more exciting features to Beat Saber as well as bringing the game to more people.”

If you’re unfamiliar with what Beat Saber is all about by the way, it’s a Guitar Hero in the VR world which uses a lightsabers. It’s 2018 task was that players would slice through some 3D objects flying at them to the beat of a song. The game is available on PC, PS4 and of course the Oculus Quest. The game is also popular among those who have a VR Hardware considering how many awards it won including Fan Favorite VR Game at the Gamer’s Choice Awards.
Of course, Facebook’s interest in the studio isn’t likely to be limited to Beat Saber. The company is one of the prime investors and innovators in the Virtual Reality space and may possibly be looking to leverage Beat Games’ ingenuity for new titles.
It’s obvious that Virtual Reality isn’t as developed as we’ve expected back in 2014 and the slow growth of the technology is a part of what is making technology companies reintroduce it so as to get people’s interested and realize how interesting the technology can be.
