WhatsApp is one of the most popular texting applications across the globe with billions of users. The service will however no longer be available to some users this year.
The report was first published by The Independent making it known that a new update will mark the end of the operation on some smartphones this year.
The main reason for this change is that these devices are running older operating systems that will no longer be supported moving forward.
Whether it’s iOS or Android, outdated operating systems will no longer be supported. And if your device happens to be on the list, you will be alerted about the changes.

“Devices and software change often, so we regularly review what operating systems we support and make updates,” said a statement issued by WhatsApp.
“These devices also might not have the latest security updates or lack the functionality required to run WhatsApp. To choose what to stop supporting, we, like other technology companies, look at which devices and software are the oldest and have the fewest people still using them every year.”
So it might be time for you to upgrade your smartphone’s operating system. If for example, you’re using an Android smartphone, you can head over to the Settings page and then search for “Software update”. Check if you have an update awaiting you.
And if you are on iOS, then you can do so via the General settings page and then select “Software update”.
