Slowly but surely, Honor is creeping back to its old glory when it was under Huawei. The former sub-brand was let go in order to create its own trend and make an impact on the smartphone market.
The company so far is doing quite well and has turned from making mid-range smartphones to high-end premium flagship devices.
Since Huawei was axed by the US government, its sub-brands such as HiSilicon and Honor were doomed to follow in that line until the company sold its entire share of the Honor brand.
With the recent come back, Honor has released a number of great smartphones which often look exactly like Huawei devices making a lot of people wonder if Huawei is still influencing Honor in any way.
A recent post by MrWhoseTheBoss on YouTube made some clarification about this claim explaining the relationship between both companies.
Both that’s not the point of this post. The recently-announced Honor 50 series is the company’s new mid-ranger on the market and looks pretty similar to its former parent’s Huawei Nova 9 in every way possible but with Google’s Android of course.
Since Huawei has halted the production of its HiSilicon Kirin chipset, Honor makes use of the Snapdragon 778G chipset on the Honor 50 which gives the device 5G network support and an enhanced gaming experience and all the goodies needed to spice things up for an average mid-range smartphone.
It also features a 4,300mAh battery with a 66W SuperCharge technology that is able to charge up the device to about 70% under just 20 minutes.
As for the camera module, Honor 50 sports a 108MP primary sensor coupled with an 8MP wide-angle sensor and a 2MP macro sensor, and another 2MP depth sensor.
The front-facing selfie camera is a 32MP camera with a 90-degree field of view making it a great vlogging camera.
And as for the pricing, the device is going for about US$615 for the base model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage while the slightly upgraded 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage variant is going for US$695. There is also going to be an entry-level variant called the Honor 50 Lite which will reportedly go for about US$347.
