Samsung is about to be hit by big competition in the foldable smartphone market which had dominated since its first Galaxy Fold.
With rivals such as Huawei and Xiaomi not making a big wave especially on a global scale, Samsung remained the dominant force in the foldable market but all that may change by 2022 with the presence of Google in the market.
According to a new report, the company company’s first attempt in the foldable smartphone market will be codenamed “Pipit” according to APK Teardown from 9to5Google.
The team behind the APK Teardown discovered files that were associated with the latest release of the Google Camera application where they discovered the codename of the Google fold device.
The device will not be a camera powerhouse unlike the current Pixel 6 and 6 Pro models out both of which make use of the new GN1 sensor.
The upcoming Pixel Fold will reportedly make use of a dual-camera system with the first being a 12.2MP IMX363 sensor which was used in an older Pixel 3 smartphone while the secondary sensor will be another 12.2MP IMX386 sensor for ultrawide.
One thing to keep in mind is that this camera is tagged as ‘Folded’ so it might only work if the foldable Pixel is closed, though this information is unconfirmed.
With that out of the way, other cameras on the supposed Pixel Fold include an 8MP IMX355 sensor with one tagged as “Inner” and the other as “outer”.
That could mean three different camera areas just like the current Galaxy Z Fold 3.
Even before the release of the device, we can say that we’re already disappointed with the camera system even though these numbers aren’t official.
One thing for sure is that the device could make use of the new Google Tensor chipset which has a powerful camera processing – hopefully that could enhance the photo output of the device.
Another thing is the fact that foldable smartphones are often presented as a tool rather than funky devices.
If we’re to go by the current Galaxy Z Fold 3, the implementation of several components on the device as well as features its software offer makes the device a real tool for business-oriented people who multitask.
