The new year 2022 is about to get more fun especially in the foldable smartphone market that is currently dominated by Samsung as former Huawei sub-brand Honor has made it known that it will be debuting its first-ever foldable smartphone dubbed the Honor Magic V.

The device was teased recently in a video where we got a glimpse of what the device will potentially look like.

According to a recent report, the device will debut on the 10th of January at 7:30P PM Chinese local time.

Apart from the foldable smartphone, Honor is also expected to debut its Magic UI 6.0 skin built on top of Android 12.

From the shared poster of the forthcoming device, one thing is that the design is quite similar to the Galaxy Z Fold series – a design that’s championed by Samsung and has now been adopted by nearly every foldable smartphone maker since 2021.

From the shared poster, the unique design of the back of the device is quite obvious and that’s a good thing first of all.

Honor is very reputable with beautiful smartphone design and that will definitely continue with their foldable lineups.

The device will sport a triple rear camera setup all cameras arranged in a vertical order. There is also an LED flash at the bottom part right next to the camera sensor.

The Chinese smartphone maker’s CEO Zhao Ming also revealed that the Magic V smartphone is equipped with the company’s self-developed patented hinge technology and that it’s the thinnest in the industry.

The teaser video confirmed Honor’s claims that the device will not be a clamshell fold like the Galaxy Z Flip series or Huawei P50 Pocket but will be a standard foldable smartphone – the book-like design similar to Oppo Find N or Galaxy Z Fold 3.

According to multiple sources, the design of the Honor Magic V is meant to simulate both smartphone and tablet experience when unfolded with the software optimized to work well with the larger screen.

As for the display size, it’s expected to feature a 6.5-inch outer screen and then a larger 8-inch inner display and will make use of display panels supplied by BOE and Visionox.

In terms of the specifications, the device is said to feature the new-generation Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.

As for the aforementioned camera system, the primary sensor will be a 50MP main snapper and the software will be Android 12 with Magic UI 6.0 laced on top of it.

As for the power, it’s reported to sport a large 5,100mAh cell with an ultra-fast 66W charging.

The device has a lot of potentials but the fact that it’s going to be released in China doesn’t clarify whether it’ll be globally available or it’ll be China-only.
