Finally, we have the POCO F2 after a long wait and the device was officially unveiled today in a virtual event. There have been numerous speculations that the Redmi K30 Pro would become the Poco F2 and of course that speculation is now true for the device but the former is a great smartphone with interesting premium-level specifications just the same way back in 2018 when the first Poco F1 was released. The new model has a slightly pump in its pricing all due to the use of a powerful Snapdragon 865 chipset and 5G network support.
POCO F2 Pro shares the same design and pretty much similar hardware with the Redmi K30 Pro. But the phone packs the much-acclaimed POCO Launcher 2.0 based on Android 10. This brings features such as Dark Mode, a cool App Drawer and more.
Everything you’ll expect from a premium flagship which includes the highest Snapdragon 865 chipset, support for SA/NSA dual-mode 5G network support, 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM or the 8GB LPDDR5 RAM with a 256GB UFS 3.1 internal storage – what else would you want?
The display is what you’ll expect from a flagship device measuring 6.67-inch using a AMOLED display technology with FHD+ resolution. The screen has the world fastest screen at 180Hz touch sampling rate which will enhance gaming experience to the smoothest. The display us also a TUV Rheinland certified for eye care as well as being protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 both at the front and back of the device.
The display also comes with the latest generation of an under-display fingerprint sensor. The phone supports Wi-Fi 6, Super Bluetooth, NFC and equally has a 3.5mm headphone jack and IR blaster. You also get Hi-Res audio support and 1.2cc speakers.
There is a quad rear camera setup on the POCO F2 Pro 5G with a primary sensor of 64MP SOny IMX686 with OIS and then a 13MP Ultra wide-angle lens with a 123-degree FoV, a 5MP Telemacro lens, and a 2MP depth of field sensor. The phone also supports 8K video shooting and super slo-mo videos.
One thing that amazed me about the front-facing selfie camera is that it uses the pop-up technology which means no hole whatsoever on the front of the device (the same way as the Redmi K30 Pro if you’re familiar with it). The selfie camera sports 20MP sensor which has support for 120 fps slow-mo video and time lapse shooting.
In terms of power, the battery used in the device is a big 4,700mAh cell which supports 30W fast charging as well as LiquidCool Technology 2.0 which helps the device cool down when it’s overused especially in situations like gaming.
And as for the pricing f the device, it comes at a mid-range price point of US$542 for the base model with 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and the higher variant with 8GB RAM + 256GB storage costs US$651. The device also come in various color options which includes Neon Blue, Electric Purple, Cyber Grey, and Phantom White. It is presently available GearBest and AliExpress for the global market. POCO says it will hit more stores soon.
