Motorola continues to release brilliant Android smartphones despite the huge competition and its latest release is the Edge 20 series which consists of the Edge 20 as the base model, then Edge 20 Pro and Edge 20 Lite all of which comes with some pretty decent premium-tier specifications such as a massive 6.7-inch OLED display that has a 144Hz refresh rate, 108MP primary sensor and 8MP periscope camera for telephoto and also 3x optical zoom.
Then there is the Motorola Edge Lite which comes with a lesser 90Hz refresh rate but also has a similar 108MP primary sensor and other cool features on board.
The Edge 20 Pro is the highest of all the three devices released and it comes with high-end features such as the Snapdragon 870 chipset and a 12GB of RAM coupled with a 256GB of internal storage while the Edge 20 gets a lesser Snapdragon 778G with a 6/8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage and then there is the Edge 20 Lite with the Dimensity 720 chipset with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
The Edge 20 and 20 Pro share a 16MP ultrawide cam alongside the main 108MP Samsung ISOCELL HM2 sensor while the Edge 20 Lite gets an 8MP ultrawide snapper and 2MP depth helper.
I’d say the stiffened competition in the smartphone market means that companies need to be more innovative and have something that’ll differentiate their devices from the others. While there might not be a big differentiator in the case of the Motorola Edge 20 series, I still think the fact that the company excels in the battery department is a big win for the brand.
Take, for example, the Motorola Edge 20 sports a 5,000mAh battery with 30W charging support while the “Pro” model gets a 4,500mAh battery while the smaller one gets a 4,000mAh battery, and all of the devices charge at 30W speed.
The device is also powered by Motorola’s My UX which is an Android 11 skin and it offers support for the Ready For PC interface which allows you to use a desktop-like interface when the device is connected to an external display. Motorola also stated it will continue to support the device in terms of software updates for about 2 years.
Pricing for the Motorola Edge 20 Pro starts at approximately US$830.68 (€699.99/£649.99). Edge 20 will go for about US$593.34 (€499.99/£429.99) while Edge 20 Lite will go for US$415.33 (€349.99/£299.99). All three phones will be available later in August and will eventually make their way across Europe, Latin America, and Asia but the US market release is still on hold and there are no words on when American buyers can expect the release.
