Lenovo just released a first foldable Laptop and it’s available to order

Lenovo released a number of laptops aside the folding one

When you hear foldable devices, you probably think of Samsung being the elephant in the market right now with almost no competitor although there is the Motorola Razr fold which to me still have a long way to go compared to the likes of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 or the Galaxy Z Flip both which sport interesting specifications and of course high price tags.

The newest in the market now though not in the mobile aspect of the “Foldables” would be the new Lenovo ThinkPad which is much more than what we’ve seen before. The ThinkPad X1 Fold with a 13-inch OLED panel with a starting price tag of US$2,499.

One reason why foldable smartphones and now PCs are much more expensive than the traditional flattened form factors we’re normally used to is due to the technologies being used in these devices especially the OLED panel which is usually more expensive than for example IPS LCD panels but that’s a topic for another time.

You might wonder what Lenovo was thinking to design such insane piece of device but the idea is to have a large tablet when fully unfolded and can also be used as a notebook when propped up horizontally. There is also an optional detachable keyboard and easel stand if you want one.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold can fold up to 90 degrees or be turned vertically and therefore be used as a mini-laptop (with the base automatically turning into a keyboard) and can be turned horizontally and be used like a book with an optional stylus which is part of the accessories you get with it all is just Lenovo experimenting with a mini computer that can be hauled around easily.

Specifications of ThinkPad X1 Fold

The ThinkPad X1 Nano supports Wi-Fi 6 and 5G.

In terms of it’s storage capacity, it has 1TB of internal storage and 8GB of RAM and weighs around 2.2 pounds as well as offering support for 5G network.

The fact that it folds isn’t the only interesting thing about the ThinkPad X1 Fold. It comes with the 11th generation Intel processors, two USB-C ports as well as SIM-card slot.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Nano

There is also the other ThinkPad X1 Nano which is much more lighter weighing about 1.99 pounds and uses the new Intel’s Evo platform that will help it have a much longer battery life, fast charging capacity and quick boot time. The Evo systems also need to include Intel’s 11th Gen Tiger Lake processors, Wi-Fi 6, and Thunderbolt 4.

The ThinkPad X1 Nano also has a 13-inch 2K 16:10 display and comes in two models (touch and non touch) and its about the same height as a 14-inch laptop with 1:9 aspect ratio. It also come with some cool AI security features as well as detecting when you’re close by to use it – it wakes up or sleep when you walk away.

Specifications of ThinkPad X1 Nano

As mentioned earlier, it comes with an 11th-gen Intel processor up to an i7 with 16GB of RAM and about 1TB of internal storage. Battery wise, it sports a 48Wh battery and four 360-degree microphones and also Intel’s Xe integrated graphics with support for 5G. It is able to run both Linux as well as Windows 10.

Then lastly is the ThinkBook 13s Gen 2 costing about US$729 along with ThinkBook 14s Yoga which is the first convertible ThinkBook that has a built-in pen with a price tag of about US$879 while there is also the much cheaper ThinkBook 15 Gen 2 costing around US$549. The 13s and 15 also have AMD options. They’ll both be available in October; the Yoga is coming in November.
