iOS 16 update is coming and here are the iPhone models that will support it

It's disappointing that iPhone models that are 6 years old may not be getting the next-gen iOS 16 update

The next-gen iOS 16 is on its way and it will be loaded with tons of interesting features including the ability to edit and unsend text messages as well s the ability to split up purchases into biweekly payments using the Apple Pay Later technology. My favorite of the improvements would be the ability to customize the lock screen with widgets.

While the release date for the iOS 16 isn’t specified just yet, the software update is expected to drop sometime during the fall. However, there are many iPhone owners who are curious whether their devices would offer support for these new software updates in order to enjoy the outstanding performance it will offer and better optimization that will surely enhance the user experience in every way possible.

There is currently a second developer beta preview which is already out and can be downloaded through Apple’s developer program. However, downloading a developer beta on your daily driver smartphone might be a bad idea considering the fact that the software will currently be ridden with bugs and other issues. The release of a public beta might just be the best thing to wait for.

The public beta release should be anytime this month – if you can wait and there is a list of devices that will support the next-gen iOS 16. We compiled the list below and if your own smartphone isn’t part of it, there are chances you’ll be needing to upgrade your smartphone.

These iPhone models will support iOS 16

The following iPhones will be compatible with iOS 16 when it’s released later this year:

  5. iPhone 11 Series (11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max)

  7. iPhone 13 series (13, 13 Mini, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max)
  8. iPhone SE (2nd generation and later)

And if you’re already planning to buy any of the forthcoming iPhone 14 series, those devices should surely come with the iOS 16 update out of the box. The flagship devices are expected to be announced by September if everything goes right.

How to find out which iPhone you have

Considering the similarities in the design of the iPhones since the older models, you might be confused about your own model. So in order to check what type of iPhone model you are currently using, head over to the Settings app and then scroll to “General” and “About”.

From there, you should see your device’s “Model Name” as well as the device’s “Model Number” which can be used to find out more specifications of your device model including its release year, battery capacity and so operating system.

iPhone 7 series and older MAY not get iOS 16

iPhone models older than the iPhone 8 series will likely not get iOS 16 updates according to a report. Though surprising the older models are expected to however have support for the current iOS 15 updates.
