Huawei P50 Pocket lauched with Snapdragon 888 and US$1,410 price tag

Huawei P50 Pocket announced

Huawei is still a dominant brand in the foldable smartphone market and the company has recently debuted another version of its foldable smartphone.

Instead of taking the direction it took with its popular Mate X series, it took a different direction this time around in the footprint of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series.

The all-new Huawei P50 Pocket is an amazing smartphone in terms of design and most of all, the fact that it has no visible gap in between the screens when closed up makes it look more appealing.

Huawei had always been a powerful force right next to Samsung even though I’d prefer a Huawei’s foldable smartphone if not for the Google/US problem the Chinese tech giant is facing.

The design of the new Huawei P50 Pocket is reminiscent of the P50 series – the circular camera module as well as a circular outer screen.

The device makes use of a custom-made 3D structured glass design.

I also love the fact that Huawei is never afraid to give us big screens with its foldable smartphones and that is exactly what it did again with the P50 Pocket.

You’ll get a massive 6.9-inch 120Hz OLED panel on the main display with a tall 21:9 aspect ratio.

There is also a 2790 x 1188 px resolution on the display which is great for any kind of media.

There is a hole-punch camera cut-out for selfie camera of course and then a big 1-inch display at the back to display quick information such as dates, music player, QR codes, and so forth.

Huawei to spend U$632M in an attempt to expand its business portfolio to include digital energy

I also love the fact that the smaller outer screen is well-optimized for a number of important widgets and third-party apps. So you can even beautify it to your very own taste.

Huawei P50 Pocket comes with gapless folding screen and Snapdragon 888 4G chipset

Now as for the camera, the device sports a triple rear setup which includes a primary 40mp snapper with a 26mm equivalent lens along with a smaller 13MP f/2.2 ultrawide sensor and lastly, another 32MP f/1.8 ultrawide angle sensor that is also expected to enhance color rendering.

Still, on the hardware specifications of the Huawei P50 Pocket foldable smartphone, you’ll get the recent and powerful Snapdragon 888 chipset.

In the storage department, there is either an 8GB or 12GB of RAM with either 256GB or 512GB of storage.

As for the battery, you get a 4,000mAh Li-Ion battery that supports 40W wired charging. The device measures about 7.2mm when it’s unfolded while it’s about 15.2mm when folded and weighs about 190 grams.

Out of the box, you get Huawei’s proprietary firmware, HarmonyOS running on the P50 Pocket with all of Huawei’s services.

In terms of color options, you’ll get the Huawei P50 Pocket in White, Black, and a special Gold edition which is my favorite.

And in terms of pricing, the base model (8GB RAM/256GB Storage) comes with a US$1,410 price tag making it much more expensive than the Galaxy Z Flip 3 with a US$999 price tag but I digress.

The high-end variant with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage is sold for about US$1,725 and sales are expected to start in China today while international availability isn’t yet announced.

One thing I’ve noticed about Huawei’s premium products ever since the ban is that the price tags have continued to inflate probably because Huawei’s smartphones with their great hardware and user experience are seen as limited products which are why their prices are often inflated or the company always fail to cut their product price soon enough.
