Google will be going all out this year with the Pixel 6 series which according to new reports will comprise two devices namely the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Plus both of which will be powered by Google custom-designed chipset called the Tensor SoC as well as running the latest Android 12 out of the box.
One noticeable thing is the fact that the design of the device has grown over the years and is no longer the Pixel 3XL with its humongous notch the size of a helicopter launchpad.
While it seems Google might not be able to compete with the likes of Samsung or Apple for the top-tier premium market, Google briefly took a step back with the Pixel 5 last year when it released the device with a mid-range chipset that includes 5G support in order to allow for an affordable price point.
But the search engine giant might be all in for the big-guys competition for its 2021 flagship as the device has some pretty unique design and aesthetics that’ll definitely give it an edge on the smartphone market in the US and Europe.
Improved camera system
The Google Pixel smartphones are known for being the ultimate camera phones because of their capabilities which is something of interest and that will continue to improve with the Pixel 6 series according to reports. Thanks to the new Tensor chipset, the image processing capabilities of the device are now much more refined and will be able to record high-quality videos aside from taking brilliant photographs.
In the older model, there was a dual-camera setup that takes great pictures but competitions like the Galaxy Note 20 series with a triple camera setup or the iPhone 12 Pro Max for example definitely takes the place of the Pixel 5 thanks to the ambitious camera system in those devices.
Speaking of an upgraded camera system on the Pixel 6 series, Google promised that the cameras will be able to capture about 150% more light than its predecessor and the lighter the device’s sensor can capture the better image quality, and then we have the advanced image processor with the refined Google camera application which is interestingly cool.
There will also be the inclusion of a 4x optical zoom lens as part of the triple setup according to Jon Prosser who stated that the primary sensor could be a 50MP wide-angle lens and then a 12MP ultrawide camera while the zoom lens will be a 48MP.
Those numbers already sound great on paper but putting them to actual work is the most important thing and that’s where a full hands-on overview and full review of the Google Pixel 6 series comes in.
Galaxy S21 Ultra is out and it was a monster and we’re also expecting the iPhone 13 Pro Max which is expected to also come with some camera upgrades over the previous model and lastly the Pixel 6 Pro should be able to match with the aforementioned devices and now we can see why Google is going in on the camera to give it a better boost which will, in turn, put the Pixel 6 series at the top of all pixel smartphones as the ultimate camera phone.
Now the Tensor processor
Google previously used chipsets from Qualcomm, and the company is apparently going its own way by designing its own silicon which it’ll call Tensor. This move won’t be the first of its kind in the smartphone industry because it’s something we see often – Huawei designs Kirin, Samsung designs Exynos and Apple designs Bionic chipsets.
The fact that Google can have the chipset tailored down to fit its device will give it an edge over using third-party chipset as the Tensor will be an integral part of both the hardware and software of the Google Pixel 6 series when it’s finally released.
It will also help improve existing technologies like AI and speech recognition all of which are things Google is known for. This might also enable a longer year of support for the Pixel 6 with which Google can continue to send newer upgrades and of course market its services to its existing audience.
Android 12 out-of-the-box
Yes Android 12 out-of-the-box and the little we’ve seen about the Android 12 update was fascinating which is what will make the overall UI outstanding.
The improved Material You is just interesting and on a flat 6.7-inch AMOLED panel, you’ll expect some pretty decent user interface from the world’s most popular operating system. One thing I fancy about the Android 12 OS is the color manipulation whereby the system simply customizes the notification area, icons, and even text with the dominant color in an image you set as the background image.
Other cool things about the upgrade include improved privacy and security features that restrict access to apps that use your camera and microphones in the background – just in case you think Facebook is monitoring you.
