This won’t be the first time we’ll be seeing a reputable event getting cancelled over the fear of the spread of the Covid-19 disease. Football leagues, entertainment shows, movie releases, tech events and even numerous businesses had to close down this year all thanks to the Coronavirus which is currently ravaging the world.

The organizers of the Tokyo Game Show have announced that they will be cancelling this year’s event due to the pandemic. The event which is expected to take place by September 24th at the Makuhari Messe convention center which is located outside of Tokyo will no longer take place but there are plans the event could be hosted virtually just as many companies had done this year.

Since 1996, this will be the first time the TGS will be cancelled but of course this isn’t a surprise to anyone as most people might not even attend the event in the first place. Virtually every in-person gaming event this year has been scratched from the calendar, including E3 and Gamescom, the biggest shows in the US and Europe respectively.

One particular thing about the TGS 2020 which would have given it more attention from the general public is due to the fact that the event will be the major trade show before the launch of the major game consoles which we’ve all been anticipating about. The likes of Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 are all coming on this period. Both of these game consoles have been tipped to be released this fall but being able to see them in person just before they finally get released to the public might just not be possible this year anylonger.

There have been marketing and promotions put in place already by Microsoft to start its cycle of online promotion for the Series X as the company showed off a list of games which will be coming to the game console. What we only know about the PS5 includes a logo and few specifications.
