The social networking giant has had its fair share of controversies this year alone and it’s something the company will never escape from but there might be a better way to shape things – why not rebrand the parent company?
Well, it’s deeper than just the renaming. It’s an entire rebranding just the way Google rebranded itself to Alphabet back in 2015.
Mark Zuckerberg remained the company’s CEO and he has made it known the direction the company is planning to take moving forward.
With more focus on the digital world, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Meta! In Mark Zuckerberg’s accent of course.
What is “Meta” by the way? It’s a greek word that stands for “Beyond” according to Zuckerberg.

“It symbolizes that there is always more to build,” Zuckerberg said. “There’s always a next chapter to the story.”
The company will continue to promote its “Metaverse” sentiment which is basically a world conjoined through the internet or shall I call it a Digital World!
With this, the company says it will build a new world on privacy and interoperability – hopefully, Meta can keep to its terms.
“If we all work at it, and within the next decade, the metaverse will reach a billion people, host hundreds of billions of dollars of digital commerce, and support jobs for millions of creators and developers,” Zuckerberg said during a presentation at Facebook’s Connect conference on Thursday. “We are fully committed to this.”
Rumors about the name change have been circulating across the internet for about a week now and it seems to be the right move for the company which is trying to hold on to some of its most valuable assets such as WhatsApp and Instagram as American lawmakers think Facebook was too big and not allowing other smaller social media platforms to thrive.
But let’s leave Facebook for now and talk about Meta, Inc. whose ideologies and development of the metaverse innovation is still a budding product.
Zuckerberg is very keen on delivering a better-interconnected web to every single individual on the planet – a kind soul he is.
By the time the metaverse technology is grown, controlling software programs with your voice or hands will just be an easy thing.
“This is the next chapter of our work, and, we believe, for the internet overall,” Zuckerberg said.
When the whistleblower released thousands of documents that exposed the internal dealings of the company and its love or money over its users, Facebook soon found itself in a hot water as it got grilled left and right by US lawmakers.
One part that stood out was the fact that the company allegedly knew the damaging effect its other service – Instagram had on teenagers but never did anything to amend the horrible effect.
Frances Haugen, the whistleblower also accused Facebook of not doing enough to stop the spread of misinformation and hate on the platform.
She even said the recent Ethiopian crisis was indirectly linked to Facebook’s carelessness.
The company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg indeed came to the rescue once again. He addressed the leaked documents on Monday stating that the company is trying to balance free expression with efforts to reduce harmful content.
Lawmakers believe the company isn’t doing enough despite hiring about 40,000 people to work on the safety and security part of the business which is expected to spend a whopping US$5 billion on this really important part that keeps landing the company in serious trouble every year.
But away from that, Meta, Inc. the new business will also be more accommodating to younger people – its initial audience until TikTok snatched them all.
FYI, Facebook also owns Oculus, a virtual reality technology company. This arm of Meta will be used to further the company’s metaverse agenda.
One of the best ways to make this a reality is via the company’s next-gen headset called Cambria which will bring screens pretty close to the eyes giving the illusion of a virtual world.
