Facebook is devising a new strategy to help it gain more user base while lure users away from the world largest video sharing platform, YouTube by allowing people to watch official music videos from artists in the US.
The news was reported by TechCrunch that Facebook ha informed artists page managers of a new setting which will automatically add all their music videos to the page. This feature is set to arrive by August but page manager can disable the feature which will not allow music videos to appear on the artist’s page.
So with that, there will now be a special feed for music videos even though there will still be the current Facebook Facebook Watch tab where users can binge watch videos on the largest social media platform.
There was a tweet which stated that music industry executives weren’t putting out videos on Facebook because there isn’t any monetization factor on the platform compared to YouTube whereby users can make a lot of money with views on their channel.

Facebook’s deal with music labels till now has allowed it to use short clips of songs in experiences such as Instagram stories or Reels (the app’s TikTok clone). But now, folks in the US will be able to see full music videos.

Aside independent content creators, musicians and labels have always chosen YouTube due to the platform’s business model which allows them to officially publish their works with ease while making money from it directly through ads revenue unlike Facebook whose ads revenue isn’t shared with content creators but to just boost it’s platform to be more attractive to advertisers.
With the new implementation, it might be possible Facebook is trying to implement a much more profitable model that will positively affect those who use the Music side of it’s platform as well. But it’s still a question we’re yet to find answer to.
