In order to encourage better school attendance rate, Chinese Schools are now offering a chip-equipped “Smart Uniform” to students in order to know exactly where they are. While the move might appear too obnoxious from different people’s point of view, the move is to equip students’ smart uniform to track when and where the students enters or exists the school premises also with facial recognition software at the entrances to make sure that the right student is wearing the right outfit (so you can’t just have your friend, say, wear an extra shirt while you go off and play hooky). This translates that whenever a student tries to sneak out of the school premises during work hours, an alarm will go off.
While the so-called smart uniforms are washable, a report gotten from the manufacturer of the smart wear Guizhou Guanyu Technology Company has it that the uniform can endure up to 150 Degrees Celsius (302 Degree Fahrenheit) and about 500 washes before it wears off.
Detecting the presence and absence of school students isn’t the only thing the school uniform does. It also detects if a student had fallen asleep during school hours and also it allows them to make payments by utilizing additional facial and or fingerprint recognition technologies to confirm the purchases.
The uniform is already in use by nearly 10 schools in China’s Guizhou Province region. Although the technology isn’t pretty new considering the fact that it’s been in use since 2016 according to one Lin Zongwu who is a Principal of Renhuai school which happens to be the number 11th school that had adopted the smart uniform.

Although the fundamentals of the uniform is to track the attendances of students while they’re in the school premises. One growing concern is whether that would be the limited use of the device or if schools would start tracking students right after they leave school (after school hours) Although Lin Zongwu had affirmed that the school had chosen to “not to check the accurate location of students after school.”
