Black Widow has now raked in an estimated US$215 million in worldwide box office in its opening weekend according to announcement made by Disney on Sunday and also hit the largest domestic box office opening since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The movie also sits at the third position as Marvel’s highest domestic opening for an origin story after Black Panther and Captain Marvel both of which did really great at the box office worldwide.

The movie made its global debut on Friday in movie theaters and on the Disney Plus streaming platform with a Premier Access fee of about US$30.

The movie made about US$80 million at the domestic box office, US$78 million in international box office receipts and over US$60 million through Disney Plus Premier Access worldwide.

“Black Widow’s strong performance this weekend affirms our flexible distribution strategy of making franchise films available in theaters for a true cinematic experience and, as COVID concerns continue globally, providing choice to consumers who prefer to watch at home on Disney Plus,” Kareem Daniel, Chairman of Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution, said in a statement.

The movie which has mixed reviews from several critics is a back story of the popular Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff who happens to be an important member of the Avengers. We got a back story about her origin and her quest to right some of her past wrongs. The movie initially was supposed to be released back in May 2020 but the pandemic caused a year-long delay.
