The German Aerospace Center autonomously landed a drone on top of a moving car. The solar drone flew at about 47 mph during the test flight, and pulled off its autonomous landing with the help of software that scanned for optical markers placed atop a mobile platform attached to the top of the car. The drone sensed the markers and was then able to sync its speed with the speed of the car. Researches say this system is accurate to within 20 inches. The aim is to use the technique for solar drones providing live updates during disasters, but the value and potential uses for this system once perfected, could really be far reaching.
