Initially it was a couple of tech companies that were pulling out of the Mobile World Congre 2020 (MWC 2020) but now the event which is scheduled to take place between Feb. 24th to 27th on Barcelona, Spain has been cancelled because of the Novel Coronavirus which is currently causing a global panic and serious health emergency in China, where it originated.
The announcement to cancel the event didn’t really come as a big surprise though because lots of companies had already cancelled their invitations. The event which is where powerful smartphones gets to be announced and so forth but then it’s met with an untimely dismay as for 2020.
At first, the GSM Association (GSMA) was showing optimism about the event claiming thing would go as planned but considering how many companies to have already pulled out of the event, it’s safe to assume nothing much would’ve happened during the event by the way.
It’s unclear what will happen to the pre-MWC events on February 22 and 23, those which were not canceled prior to this information coming out. Technically none of them is during MWC, or on the premises, so they could still happen – but it’s down to the companies involved to figure things out now. We’re talking about Huawei, Oppo, Xiaomi, and Motorola. We will keep you informed of any new developments regarding their events.
But since the Coronavirus issue has somehow eluded the 2020 MWC event, the organizing body is already looking ahead towards the future as they hope to keep the event hosted in Barcelona, Spain which has been the center location for the event since 2006.
