It’s probably because Lamborghini wants to be the first car in the space but Automonili Lamborghini SPA wants to send it’s car based on researches which it’s conducting alongside Houston Methodist Research Institute to examine what an harsh effect like the space would have on Composite materials which makes sense if you think about it.
Afterall, if we’re going to colonize Mars, we aren’t going to be confined in some rotary tube for the rest of our lives and mate and have offspring within this same cycle. At least we should be able to see how we can create a conducive environment which just like Earth, we can enjoy that same lifestyle in the far away planet.
Aside the sense of it, Lamborghini is said to be planning to send up several samples of different composite materials to the ISS (International Space Station) using an unmanned rocket.
Ones these composite materials are in the space, the samples will be studied and the results will certainly be used to design futuristic supercars and medical equipment such as artificial limbs.
“We are very proud,” said Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali, in a statement. “Lamborghini is breaking ground as the first automaker in the world to conduct carbon fiber materials science research on the ISS. In addition to representing an important example of corporate social responsibility, this mission is also fully in line with our philosophy and values. Lamborghini is a brand that has always been committed to going beyond limits in every area of its activity and to being a pioneer in the realm of technology.”
These composite materials will spend about 6 months on the ISS during which they will be exposed to all kinds of cosmic radiation and maybe Lamborghini might make a car that can truly heal itself just as it claimed with it’s future concept E-Vehicle.
