Jeff Bezos has made it known that public figures such he himself and others like Donald Trump and Peter Thiel shouldn’t always take things to the extreme with the media whenever they are on their duty. He criticized this act and calls for a clear state. Bezos whose company also include a media publishing company the Washingto Post said that the attempt by Thiel to cripple Gawker is a bad one. When asked about his perspective concerning the issues of controversies and adverseries with the media by the public figures, he said those aren’t good thing and stated that someone like Thiel should be able to fund a lawsuit where the intention is to silence a media critic, he said in his own case, he wouldn’t put his hands to such act.
“The best defense to speech that you don’t like about yourself as a public figure is to develop a thick skin, because you can’t stop criticism,” Bezos told host Walt Mossberg. “You are going to get it. If you’re doing anything interesting in the world, you are going to have critics. You can’t stop it. Move forward. It’s not worth losing any sleep over.”
Just this past week, Thiel, who is the co-founder of Paypal Inc. admitted that he had being secretly bankrolling wrestler Hulk Hogan’s defamamation lawsuit against Gawker, in which a jury made an award of around $140M worth of damages fee which got placed on the media publisher. The gossip blog which had at ones labelled him a gay back in 2007 is said to have likely lighted up some flames in jis grudges against the company.
As opposed to Bezos who seems more quitter and woud prefer not taking vengeance, he said that “Seek revenge and you will dig two graves – one for yourself” He said on Tuesday.
Although he stood clear and never defended either party (Gawker), Bezos stood on his point about the liberty of the media and its fairness as stipulated in the First Amendement Rights. Bezos also said “Beautiful speech doesn’t need protection rather its ugly speech that needs protection.” Also, he never excludes the Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump for “Working to freeze or chill the media that are examining him.” He made this known while he disregarded attempts by the public figures trying to downlook the media and not being appreciative of their job. He added concerning the case of Donald Trump that “We live in this amazing democracy with free speech, and presidential candidate should welcome that.”
Among other things he said, the Amazon founder and CEO also spoke on the Alexa’s project and hope it could at a point in the nearest future become the main point of the company which is raking in more rapidly. Other of his speech includes the case with his rocket company Blue Origin which is hope to help during the colonization of the Mars planet. He said “People will settle Mars – And we should because its cool” He said.
