Now Twitter is against harassment on its network. This was made known on an official blog of the company as written by Twitter Trust & Safety council. “The Council” according to Twitter brings together 49 experts from different organizations into a single group that the social network can reach out to when it develops “Products, Policies and Programs” which are in mission of helping users feel safe while thy express themselves.
But while Twitter is usually that great at speaking out what it aims to do concerning situations like this but wouldn’t take actions towards establishing them which — something its own employees can testify to.
The Council includes a lot of smart groups — but will Twitter listen to them?
Well, Twitter had though included big fins like GLAAD into its league of council members. GLAAD which is an Anti Defamation League which fights antisemitism throughout the entire globe, the National Domestic Violence Hotline and Cyber Civil Rights Initiatives which combat revenge porn.
Included in the number is Feminist Frequency which is a nonprofit organization founded by media critic and journalist Anita Sarkeesian. Its somehow ironic inclusion given that Sarkeesian being a target of so much online abuse herself but then again, who would know better how to identify it? As ever, Twitter has at least given itself plenty of opportunities to learn from its own mistakes?
