After so long with numerous speculations, Apple finally listened to its customers who demands low-tier mid-range device which won’t break the bank as for the cost and voila, the iPhone SE 2.
So while we’ve all been speculating about the naming of the device and let’s admit it, Apple’s naming of its devices can be really weird sometimes but the sudden jump forward from it’s olden iPhone 8 to iPhone X (10) and then not looking back got some of us wondering if the company will at any point close that vacant number.
But well, this newly released smartphone won’t be covering the emptied name but bridge the gap between the olden iPhones and its premium-level devices and behold, we have the iPhone SE 2 which is a follow-up for the initial iPhone SE first released back in 2016.
Like the original SE, the new phone will start at $399 — $50 cheaper than the discontinued iPhone 8 which was the least expensive iPhone you could buy new. Pre-order of the device starts on Friday right on Apple’s official store while the device is expected to hit shelves by April 24th.
The new iPhone SE will comes in three colors (black, white and red) and three storage options (64GB for $399, 128GB for $449 and 256GB for $549).
Water resistant (IP67); dual-SIM capabilities (nano-SIM and e-SIM); wireless charging
Price off-contract (USD)
$399 (64GB), $449 (128GB), $549 (256GB)
£419 (64GB), £469 (128GB), £569 (256GB)
AU$749 (64GB), AU$829 (128GB), AU$999 (256GB)
As we speculated earlier on, Apple didn’t host any fancy event while introducing this device instead, it was done during a press release but that can again be as a result of the Coronavirus‘ impact which had led to the cancellation of numerous events worldwide changing their hosting venues to the internet. Even when the company released it’s iPad Pro 2020 edition and the MacBook Air, it did it the same way.
Okay that aside, the iPhone SE 2 feature some really cool specifications which places it close by the much expensive iPhone 11 series. Sporting the A13 Bionic chipset as well as the Qi wireless charging, a True Tone display all makes the device super cool for it;s price.
In the camera department, it has a single 12MP shooter which features a 28-millimeter f/1.8 lens with Portrait Mode, smart HDR and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The specs are somehow related to the rear sensor on the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro.
And of course, the Apple’s iconic TouchID is back for those of you who for whatever reason do not like the FaceID. With the TouchID comes the home button as well so we’re talking about the classic iPhone’s design aesthetics right here. Meanwhile the iPhone SE 2 lacks the lightning port as well as headphone jack it’s like Apple is already done with those and why wouldn’t they after the AirPods have been selling like crazy.
And again, if you’re a lover of the small form factor of those olden iPhones, then here you have it again. The iPhone SE 2 features a 4.7- Inch display with no notch, and no hole punch.
But then sits the elephant in the room which is obviously the Coronavirus which has in fact lead to the dwindling in sales of smartphones since February as numbers drop down 38% year over year to 61.8 million units of devices based on Strategy Analytics.
For all of 2020, phone sales are expected to hit a 10-year low. Shipments of mobile phones, which include flip phones, likely will drop 13% year-over-year to 1.57 billion units in 2020, while smartphone shipments should tumble about 11% to 1.26 billion units, according to CCS Insights.
