A video was recently posted online showcasing what is assumed to being the next-gen Huawei‘s foldable smartphone and it’s like the battle between who is more innovative at designing the foldable smartphone is Samsung since the Chinese smartphone maker had bowed to the design aesthetics of its Korean rival.

The Huawei Mate X2 now sport an identical design as the Galaxy Z Fold 2 which comes with three panels – two of which are conjoined from the inside to form the tablet form-factor.

The short video shows the device being connected to the Huawei Matebook laptop using the NFC technology. Upon a successful connection, the phone’s display showed up on the PC’s display.

While this might sound pretty cool, it’s definitely not a new feature just the fact that how the Multi-Screen Collaboration feature handles the secondary internal display is what’s interesting.

Away from the feature and back to the design of the new device, the unfolded Mate X2 opens up a larger display on the inside with the software quickly transitioning the user interface from the smaller outer screen and back into the inner screen within the device at a really fast pace.

The Mate X2 will be succeeding the older Huawei Mate X and Mate XS which were released earlier both of which folds outwardly with many questioning whether this approach was the best compared to the Galaxy Fold or the Z Fold 2 which folds inwardly. It’s like the latter won as Huawei had to switch the design of the Mate X2 back to fold inwardly.

One thing that made the Galaxy Z Fold 2 a success in the market is because of the hardware as well as the software. The great hinge and the nano-glass technology are all amazing even though the foldable smartphones are still pretty much in their infancy and Samsung is the dominant player since Huawei still have political/transactional issues with the United States government which hinders it from working with Google and other American companies or even using an American technology for that matter.

The Huawei Mate X2 will definitely be another great piece of hardware even though the GMS-less software might still be an hinderance which will continue to propel Samsung’s success as the leader of the foldable smartphone market.

In terms of features, the Mate X2 comes with a quad back camera setup as well as dual selfie cameras on the external display. Sadly, you can’t use the internal screen for video calls as there’s no camera here.

The device will definitely debut this year and will be in the U$2000 region because foldable smartphones always have the highest of high-end premium specifications which usually skyrocket their price tags. SO expect such with the next-gen Huawei Mate X2.
