Even though they are beautiful. Their look is very compelling and you might get so confused about which to use for your next project. Joom…WP…That’s the way their names goes. But the reality behind these two almighty CMSs is that they both have some secret they both harbour. These secrets are what determines their functionality and speed even to the extent of which comes first.
Let’s take into consideration the globe as a whole. WordPress share a bigger or maybe larger portion of the web and Joomla lesser. The question you might at a point wonder about is “Is it that powerful?” well, let me help you out…”Well buddy, it is that powerful.” Its not that its that powerful in the reality sense. But the fact that even my Granny can use this software without having to employ me as her site maintainer is the reason behind its great usability. Joomla on the order hand is another superpower. Powerful enough to handle whatever type of job you throw at it. But the fact you still had to go through a whole bunch of manuals just to create a “Menu” is something my Granny would never really have a time for. “Who has the time to start reading a text book or PDFs just to set up a mere blog.” I’m sure that’s what she might have thought about before opting for WordPress. But the question is “Is Joomla really that inflexible?” The answer depends on many factors and depending yow literacy you are, this approach might be somehow rigid.
The reality behind this two almighty CMSs lies in the hand of the user. It lies in how willing one is really to go and handle all the shortcomings of these two. Below, I’d love to write out the two in details and then arrive at my conclusion based on user reviews and other factors.
WordPress:
“WordPress was created by the company Automattic, it was blah blah blah and many blahs follow the previous blah.”
Well to read more on the story of the WordPress CMS, read my full review on the software here::>
Well the cut the long history short, this software had being the prominent part of the internet. Taking PHP as an example, the powerful scripting language used to develop the application, the flexibility and ease of use of this language was extended into the software.
WordPress therefore stands and bridges the gap between the internet and information. But there are many things WordPress could do. In fact, a whole lot.
Since the revolution that changed the fate of the software from it’s initial intention of blogging tool into an all round software, WordPress had since being very useful and reliable.
The Usability:::// The entire story usually starts from the admin panel. Here, the user interface which looks attractive and easy to toy with becomes the first impression for any newcomer who just stumble upon the software.
Creating::// Creating post is as simple as navigating through some places and getting the job done. The software also makes it easy to section posts into categories for a better navigation so as not to flood the entire front end which unreadable post. Tags are also used for a more complex job done without too much hassle and therefore all you need to write and publish is right there for you “Unless you are lazy since WordPress can’t write for you…it has no brain…duh!!!” Another amazing function is the “Distraction free editing.” Here, the software allows you to only see what you type and nothing more.
In Creating pages, the job is done with three clicks. 1:::) You navigate to “Pages” and at the drop down, there hides the “Add” 2::) clicking this takes you to the screen to entire your “HTML” contents and design how you want your “Static” pages to be. Websites like Business website might need such page for “About Us” description, “Contact Us”, “Terms and Privacy” am sure you’ve gotten the idea am talking about now. Lastly, 3:::) You publish. Just in three clicks. This makes things very easy.
“You can set up a whole big website within 2 hours without having earlier knowledge depending on your Internet speed.”
So creating menus are way easy as installing themes and plugins. This therefore makes the job seamless and very easy without a single hassle. Those plugins then can manipulate WordPress and turn it to anything you want to. Funny enough, you can have more than one websites sitting upon on one WordPress. This makes it like the internet Magician and then its durable and never get scattered because of rigid codes. “It won’t even activate plugin that is rigid or badly coded.”
Support:::// The teams behind this is very large and I would even say each user becomes automatically a member of that team. A tiny unresolvable problem can simply be taken to the support forum and everything is done even without asking or creating a new thread. People ask and many created tutorials. The support for the software is so large and big. This makes it very easy and stressless. I’m sure you can see why we all rushed down the lane of WordPress.

Joomla on the other hand
This takes us back to the other buddy “Monsieur Joomla” This one is very reliable too and does extraordinary things which are amazing. But the day I first handled Joomla, what I felt like was that “Hey Slsko, Joomla is not meant for amateurs. Go and continue your training in web development then come back when you are good.” I felt very dejected but I took my remains and moved on to “Drupal.”
Being the first software I would first try experimenting with, it didn’t really accommodate me and it would have been stupid of me if a client requested a job and in front of him I couldn’t do anything with Joomla….it would have been embracing. That said, Joomla needs lots of improvements in a lits of areas. These improvements are parts of the difficulties beginners faces each time they stumble upon the software. The engineering design is amazing and seems to be attractive. But things aren’t that cool as they seems.
Creating::::// To create a mere post, you don’t know where to go? Well don’t be a hater…Simply navigate and to add one and categorization is far easy too. All this functionalities are placed in the header nav bar and with ease, one can do what he wants to do. But users are not limited to posts. What if you want to create pages…You are gonna need to create another post again hut this time, instead of naming your post something long, it would simply be “About us” well that doesn’t make sense right ….well that’s Joomla’s structure. You then go and attach that into your menu and then place it in your theme area.
Joomla is great and has so many catchy themes and templates you might wanna use as they were seen in their demos. Even to create a news portal website, those themes and templates are what causes another headache. If you don’t go through a huge tut from the maker, you can’t even know how to set it up. You simply have to read and read and read. The major thing I see about this software is that its meant for the Gurus to set up for the amateurs.
Joomla thus sits like a charger which every other devices taps electricity that’s the way the software really is. It can’t really stand on it’s own and therefore need a huge bunch of extension to strengthen it. Its strengthened already and others are lunch strength subscribers from the main power source. That’s how Joomla behaves.
Support:::// Not very much support team. The main static Joomla support forum which had being there for a long time still lives there. I wonder sometimes if people don’t make complaints on it but don’t be surprised….I already told you, this software is a Strength that other little strengths taps from. You have to go to a plugin developer and seek aide because most cases, even plugins on the software’s repository are not hosted there. The author hosts them on his own therefore he has the sole power over it. This makes it very difficult to get a reliable source to one’s problem in as much as the developer doesn’t offer a great sup
port for it.
So because of this, plugin authors might bill you for this services which you are not even getting any support for.
S/N | Head to Head | WordPress scores: | Joomla |
1.) | Ease of use | 98% | 76% |
2.) | Extensibility | 100% | 99% |
3.) | Support | 100% | 85% |
4.) | Durability | 97% | Â 87% |
5.) | Reliability | 98% | 97% |
6.) | Flexibility | 99% | 90% |
Conclusion:
WordPress offers everything from ground up to the finish. That is why it supersede Joomla. Because you don’t have to extend and buy things you don’t need, WordPress serves in a very great and amazing manner for all trying to create an amazing thing. WordPress’ support is very large and most codes are hosted on the Software’s repository therefore making it very easy for Plugin user and Author to meet and discuss problems, solutions and improvements in all softwares. Many times, I wonder why such a powerful tool would be released for free but the “Open source” community makes the internet a better place to love and therefore bridging gaps has never been easier.
