One of the many things about the iPhone is the codec by which pictures are saved, hence, HEIC format. The approach by Apple is to reduce the space used by pictures as the JPG codec often takes more space. Also, HEIC offers greater image quality too and can be viewed on Android devices.
Interestingly, images sent through WhatsApp using the HEIC codec often retain their original quality, unlike JPG or PNG which is part of what makes it stands out. But if for whatever reason you want to switch your iPhone’s picture file format back to the regular JPG, then below is a quick guide on how to do so.
The process is quite straightforward as all you have to do is open the Settings app on your iPhone 13 and then do the following:
From the Settings app, scroll down to “Camera” settings and from there, you can just look for “Formats”.
From the new interface, then select “Most Compatible” which will automatically switch to JPG – next time you are taking a picture using the default camera application.
