Windows 11 became official last week and many have been thinking about whether their devices support the new update.
While Microsoft has been trying to explain what device can run Windows 11, many still find this confusing considering the fact that “New PCs” might be a confusing term for many to comprehend.
While Windows 11 update is expected to be well refined and ridden with cool functionalities aside from its interesting user interface, Microsoft will also stop supporting the current Windows 10 as soon as 2025.
Although that might be a long time, the fact that many people don’t change their computers the way they change their smartphone means that some PC can be used for a period of 5 years depending on how well built it is.
U personally have a Dell Vostro 2520 that I was gifted by my Mom way back in 2014. Even though it’s not my main machine, it’s still being used to complete some minor assignments that its capacity can take.

As far as receiving Windows 11 is concerned, I don’t think my old Dell Vostro 2520 will have the capacity to run the new operating system however, my main machine which is an HP Probook 450 G8 should have the support.
Don’t freak out just yet however because the new Windows 11 will reportedly work with most PCs out there the thing is the newness of the computer is what will determine how soon it will receive the update.
Microsoft plans to roll out the update in phases which translates to some devices receiving the update much earlier than others.
So if you want to check whether your PC will be compatible with Windows 11, the best way to go about it is to make use of Microsoft’s PC Health Check app which was initially taken down by the company back when the update was first announced.
But aside from that, there are a couple of ways to know if your PC will be compatible with Windows 11 one of them is by outright going to the manufacturer’s website to check it out.
What your computer needs essentially to run Windows 11 includes at least 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a 720P display resolution, and larger than 9-inches diagonally. You can see the full list of system requirements for Windows 11 here.
1GHz or faster with 2 or more cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or system on a chip
64GB or larger storage device
UEFI, Secure Boot capable
Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0
Compatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver
HD (720p) display greater than 9 inches diagonally, 8 bits per color channel
Internet connection and Microsoft account
For Windows 11 Home edition: internet connectivity; Microsoft account to complete device setup on first use. For all Windows 11 editions: Internet access to perform updates and to download and use some features; Microsoft account for some features
However, if you didn’t receive the update right on time, this might be due to the fact that your own update is yet to arrive because as mentioned above, Microsoft stated that the rollout will be in batches so some might get the update while others might not. The company plan to continue the rollout until the year 2022.
