So Google too wants to venture into the foldable smartphone market with a Pixel variant even though there isn’t a confirmed timeline about that yet. The company had initially made this known back in the mid-March when a patent was uncovered which describes the future look and feel of the so-called foldable Pixel smartphone.
The company’s support for foldable smartphones had been made public as well when it announced that it’s Android OS would be supporting this feature. With recent reports coming in, the company itself winn be venturing into the foldable smartphone market but when it will be released is very much unknown.
In an official statement gotten from CNET from Mario Queiroz who is Google’s head of Pixel said that the company is”experimenting” on creating one.
We’re definitely prototyping the technology. We’ve been doing it for a long time. I don’t think there’s a clear use case yet — Mario Queiro
Queiroz also made it known that the company’s experimentation and decision about when to bring it to the general public is yet unknown. But he admitted that the foldable smartphones are addressing user need for a bigger screen and also a compact screen but then he said that isn’t enough to generate interest and demand.
“The use case is going to need to be something where you go, ‘Hey, I definitely need to have this.’ Right now, you don’t need to have a foldable. It’s kind of a ‘nice-to-have“, he said.
While we still can’t predict anything based on the fact that there are no leaks whatsoever not to talk of suggesting how designs would look. And in fact, a quick Google search doesn’t return any image or 3D model render that showed how the device would like which showed that it’s really not yet in major plannings of the company.
But then Queiroz added in a follow-up to the initial interview that the company is “prototyping foldable displays and many other new hardware technologies.” Then he also added that the company is not preparing any product announcements at this time. “We’re focusing our excitement today on the new members of the Pixel family, the awesome and affordable Pixel 3a and 3a XL“.
