Since the year 2019, there had been tons of smartphones launched most of which are Android-powered and selecting the best for an individual might be a daunting task in the first place.

We’ve tested and compared different devices to select which ones are the best among the best considering the fact that almost all smartphones made since 2017 have been great with high and premium qualities.

What makes a smartphone the best? We consider their performances, to see how fast they work and how quick they can handle multiple tasks thrown at them at ones, we also consider their battery life. No matter how great a smartphone is, if it lacks a good battery to keep up with its bunch of features, it’s not worth it.

Another thing we determine are the features of the device which includes what it does and how it possibly do those things.

We also consider the camera, the design which includes the screen size, the availability of some hardware such as Headphone Jack port, USB Type-C and even 5G technology even though that is an entirely new thing altogether.

But here we are with a list of smartphones that we consider the very best among the best in 2020.

Considering our criterias we have selected the best smartphones based on subcategories right within the category Best Smartphones in 2020.
The subcategory includes

  1. Smartphone with the best Camera (Google Pixel 4XL)
  2. Smartphone with the best Battery (Huawei Mate 20 Pro)
  3. Smartphone with the best Price (OnePlus 7 Pro)
  4. Best Phablet (IPhone 11 Pro Max)

What we examined with these devices includes the number of cameras and how they perform in different environments. Matching up the quality of each camera can be a really daunting task but we did that anyway.

This includes low-light, video recording, the highest resolutions of video recording and other technology such as optical image stabilization are some of the few things we consider before ranking these devices.

The iPhone 11 is a quite polarizing device which you either like or hate. It’s of course the cheapest with the lowest specs among the three iPhone announced in 2019 but that doesn’t make it entirely useless as it’s quite an upgrade of the iPhone XR which wasn’t very lived by the masses.

The iPhone 11 too isn’t also enjoying much attention as its sisters are but there is something about the the device that makes it worth buying and that’s its battery.

With a dimension of just 150.9 x 75.7 x 8.3 mm (5.94 x 2.98 x 0.33 in) the device weighs just 194 g (6.84 oz). Built from its front to the back with glass with aluminum frame (7000 series).

Moto G7 Power

Now wee are on to the most important parts which is a must for every smartphones out there. Motorola might not be popular as they formerly were back in the early 2000s but they surely still make awesome smartphones and one of those is the new MOTO G7 Power which is ruled by its name making it a really powerful device.

Measuirng just 159.4 x 76 x 9.3 mm (6.28 x 2.99 x 0.37 in) the device weighs 193 g (6.81 oz). In terms of build quality, it’s toughened up with Front glass (Gorilla Glass 3) but the back isn’t so great as it’s made with plastic. As for how the number of SIM cards it can take there is the Single SIM (Nano-SIM) version and the Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by) model.

Being plastic doesn’t mean its entirely fragile. It’s of course splash resistant (market dependent) even though its not IP68 water certified to water immersion resistant for 30 minutes.

Its display type isn’t a big deal. It uses an LTPS IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors. Best Phablets 2020

It’s as if Phablets are dead because smartphones have been pushing the limits of sizes. Nearly all smartphones are Phablets and that had caused the demise of real tablets and as folding smartphones are now asking over, it’s like the end had finally come to tablets in general.

Since the advent of the Galaxy Note 1 which has a 5.5 inch display at that time, it felt super huge when held until Huawei came with the Mate 20X in 2018 which was the standard size of a mini tablet, 7.2-inch.

Thanks to the management of screen to body ratio nowadays, a gigantic device can fit very compact within a small body frame which showed how improved technology had gone in just few years. But let’s examine the top so-called Phablets so far in 2020.

Galaxy Fold

Back in 2018 when the rumors about a folding smartphone that can turn from a single screen into a mini tablet broke online, it was a serious phenomenon that most didn’t believe will ever be possible.

Some of us, the tech enthusiasts believed that and of course Samsung did the needful and gave us the Galaxy Fold back in 2019.

Even though the technology nearly entered its early grave due to engineering imperfections, it still made a great comeback and well, Samsung isn’t the only company making the folding phone.

Royole also made the FlexiPai which was the first and even LG added a second screen to the LG V50 ThinQ. So it’s like this is the new phenomenon with Microsoft even introducing its own Surface Duo which also fold aside Huawei’s own Mate X.

And speaking of the GALAXY Fold, its the smallest of these devices with a body dimension of just 160.9 x 62.9 x 15.5 mm when it’s folded and then 160.9 x 117.9 x 6.9 mm when unfolded. But with a $2K smartphone, you’re definitely getting a high end technology.

Don’t count Hauwei out just yet. The new Mate 30 Pro 5G is a truly massive invention if you don’t care about Google play service. It’s definitely unfortunate for the device to have landed in the Waterloo of blacklisting but that doesn’t end its innovation.

As said earlier, deciding on what to buy should be according to your wish. The truth of the matter is that no smartphone device has everything you’d like. For example, let’s assume you’re the CEO of a fortune 500 company and since the nature of your job means that you’d be holding meetings every now and then, you might as well need a device that has projector. But none of the mainstream devices offers that.

As for majority of devices, you’ll have to let go of something for the other. In most cases, if a device has majority of the features and functionalities you want, it might be a good idea to settle with that device.

Let’s take the iPhone 11 Series for example, the device offers a variety of version with each having different storage which is the basic determinant of its pricing.

If you really love iPhones and don’t mind paying as high as $1000 for a smartphone, then you might never need to surf through the deep ocean of android smartphones which really deep and enormous.

But if on the other hand you want a device with powerful battery which still offers some premium features but less expensive then the LG G8 ThinQ might be your good choice.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 would be a good deal for those who wants a device they can use for creativity considering it’s stylus pen which now loads tons of features by default.

Another gigantic device to consider for the creatives would be the Huawei Mate 20x 5G which has a whooping 7.2 inch display. It’s camera is great but the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are the best camera smartphones at least for the mainstream smartphones.

Of course, Red, the company that makes professional movie cameras developed their own android phone, Hydrogen. You should know how powerful the camera of this device can be but Hydrogen isn’t mainstream yet. Most never even heard of Red unless you work in the movie industry.

Battery longevity is an essentiallity in smartphones. At least we’d want a smartphone that can take us through the day while we’re able to perform our daily activities without having to worry about the smartphones dying off at any crucial moment.
But then at the high end of the spectrum would be the Huawei Mate 30 Pro. This device can even wirelessly charge other smartphones (reverse charging) that has wireless charging capability such as the iPhone 11 Pro for example.

The problem with Huawei is their battles with the government of some countries especially the US which had landed them in hit waters lately. As powerful and ambitious as Huawei would be, the fact that you might not be able to get your network carrier to work on their devices because of your country might be a really hurtful thing but well, Huawei still needs to work things out with the US government.

Pocofone F1 came last year and was ravaging everywhere. Xiaomi owns Pocofone as a sub brand just as Huawei’s Honor.
The Pocofone F1 is a really great smartphone with powerful system on chip. Nice camera but budget price. Though it still lag in some areas but assuming you’d love a mid ranger which still boasts of some quality feature then the Pocofone F1 would be a great bet.

Another powerful mid range smartphone would be the Honor 20 Pro. It’s beautiful color shifting glass back is a big plus and it’s quad AI cameras are really wonderful for the price tag but remember, Honor is also part of Hauwei. Even though you’ll still get the Google play services on this device, you won’t get future Android security updates.

Another great smartphone would be the Galaxy S10e which is the lowest of the Galaxy S10 series announced in 2019. It has nearly the same feature as the standard Galaxy S10 device but slightly trimmed down for the budget. Still expensive though but comparing it with the iPhone 11, the Galaxy S10e would be a better alternative from my point of view much like the older iPhone XR.

The drawback on the iPhone XR is its not a real match for its price. I would recommend the iPhone 8 Plus over the iPhone XR. But that’s not the story here, the iPhone XR still offers high quality premium functionalities which makes it a nice smartphone to own.

At the end, the choice is yours to make but do consider the price, functionalities and durabikities before purchasing any of those devices.
