The smartphone revolution which began in 2017 isn’t ending anytime soon.

Smartphone manufacturers are launching the beat of the best right up every new year. And that’s the same thing we’ve seen with companies like Samsung, Apple and Huawei.

With lots if other mid sized companies now competing for spots to the extent of ousting even big existing brands makes the mobile market a really fiery one.

But what makes a smartphone the best.

Let’s star from the beginning, Back in the early 2000s when smartphones were still gaining popularities, devices with cameras and colored screens were seen as the best.

While majority of those devices back then were just feature phones, many of them were “Feature Rich” enough to be called the best but things had changed.

In 2019, a device with a mere camera and color screen won’t even be considered a phone at all not to talk of labelling it the best.

Parts of what makes a device the best includes how powerful it is.
How strong its battery can be and of course its camera features.

These days, smartphones have extremely powerful cameras that can highly compete with DSLRs.

That should show how far smartphone cameras had gone. And aside that, smartphones like the Apple IPhone X or the Samsung Galaxy S9 are equipped with cameras that can record 4K videos and they have Optical Image Stabilisation functionality.

Huawei Smartphones are known to be to equip their devices with multiple cameras that in turn makes their smartphones a shooting power.

But let’s highlight what you should consider before buying a smartphone in 2019.

1. Battery Life

The battery capacity of a smartphone will determine how far it can go and how long it can last you during a normal day.

While LG is known in the past and present for being great at making awesome batteries to their smartphone, the previous LG G7 ThinQ showed this prowess.

While a normal smartphone with 6.0 inch of display will usually come bundled with a battery of almost 2900mAh battery capacity, other features such as the screen resolution, the device processor, and some other hardware features like the flash, cameras, speakers are parts of what would determine how long a device battery would last.

But its worth noting that though the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was a total disaster because of its overtly huge battery failure, the Galaxy Note 8 and the Galaxy Note 9 that followed were great smartphones with great battery life.

Apple’s iPhone XS and the iPhone XR didn’t make it up this time compared to Samsung Galaxy S9 for a fact.
Oppo is another company with awesome devices.

Although Oppo makes high end devices that costs a fortune, the company still packages their devices with great batteries which makes their device worth buying.

You should also know that companies like Asus, with the Asus Zenfone 5 comes with a really great battery.
Huawei’s smartphones are definitely complete battery wise.

Even its Honor sub brand devices are coupled with powerful batteries.
But the truth of the matter is most of the smartphones in the market have batteries that can get you through the day even if you’re an heavy user.

But there are companies that makes better batteries than the others.

2. Processor

Major smartphone makers own their own propertiery system on chips which makes their devices awesome. But the major popular processors we usually find on high end devices includes the Bionic 12 which comes with iPhone X and above, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 894 which comes with most Android smartphones and HiSilicon Kirin. While others includes the MediaTek, NVIDIA Tegra, Intel Atom and so forth.

The importance of this little chipsets is that how they make your device work faster.
Bigger processors coupled with the device Ram (Random Access Memory) gives room to application usage and other background features that works throughout the device ecosystem.

While Android devices are known to be notorious SoC consumers, iOS doesn’t eat up RAM that much.
The fact that most high end Android smartphones comes with powerful processors makes them work seamlessly and gives you the ability to switch between apps and games while performing multiple tasks at ones.
For someone seeking to get a device mainly for business usage, you might need a device that can multi task just as fast as you do.

Here, expensive smartphones like Samsung Note 9, iPhone XS, LG G7 ThinQ, Huawei P20 are your best bet.
Meanwhile those aren’t the complete list of course. There are tons of powerful smartphones with powerful processing units.

3. RAM and ROM

One bad thing about Apple devices is that they don’t come with an external memory card port. But then they charge you premium fees for a higher memory on their devices. For example, the iPhone XS Max with 512 GB costs a fortune with the starting price being $1000.

Android smartphones generally don’t have those restrictions. Huawei Mate 20x with its large screen comes with a whooping 128 GB of ROM and 6 GB of RAM.

One thing you get for using Android devices is that you can get medium and affordable smartphones with tons of RAM and memory storage.

Let’s talk about Huawei Y9 2019, Huawei Nova 3, Pocofone F1, OnePlus 6T, these devices have on the average 4 GB of RAM spaces coupled with 64 GB of internal storage space that are of course expandable with memory sticks.

Although Hauwei puts a limit to its Huawei Mate 20x because the device with its gigantic 7.2 Inch display comes with the Huawei M-Card which is a special type of memory stick only meant for Huawei devices. Problem here is that you barely find those cards.

Other than that, devices like Samsung, LG, Sony all uses the common and general Micro SD card which are easy to find.

If you won’t mind paying a lot of cash just for memory space and you want to be part of the ecosystem of a premium service, then iPhone X might be the best you can get.

Else if you want to stand out and be able to create your own rules by yourself, then you might want to get an Android smartphone and whether you’re purchasing the high end android smartphone or the mid rangers, be rest assured you’re getting a device packaged with tons of memory spaces.

4. Camera

To me, Cameras are very important. And to majority of others, still it is. Modern day smartphones as said earlier are seriously battling against DSLR cameras.

Google Pixel 3 XL is called the best camera phone in the world. And yes it is. Google at least nailed that with its device which is of high end. Although it doesn’t come with multiple camera mounts like Huawei, it surely produces overtly high quality photographs.

But still, let’s take the Huawei Mate 20 Pro for example.
The device comes with a powerful night mode system which is made directly into the device’s system producing such a very high quality picture even in the darkness with just few lighting around whatever object you’re pointing the camera towards.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 camera too comes with numerous camera capabilities that fine tunes pictures producing outstanding pictures.

But the list is endless. IPhone XS, LG G7 ThinQ, Asus Zenfone… The list never ends. These devices all have amazing camera features and they take powerful pictures in low light which is the fact.

While there are best among the best, I would personally recommend IPhone XS, Galaxy Note 9 and Mate 20 Pro as being top high end devices with the most powerful camera features. While on the mid range level, you can get the likes of Pocofone F1, OnePlus 6T, Huawei Nova 3 all vying for top spots. Depending on your preferences and budgets, the higher you spend, the better camera you can get.

5. Screen Size and Resolution

When Samsung started the Note series with a “Massive” 5.3 inch display back in 2011,we thought that was too huge for smartphones. But nowadays, 5.3 inch screen would be considered as too small.

Even Apple known to be the maker of “tiny” screens now makes giant smartscreens for their devices.
One great thing during the smartphone revolution is that OEM had somehow found a way of packaging huge screen within a small body frame so that those devices don’t get out of hand.

It’s as if every smartphones made since 2016 were “Phablets” except the iPhones until 2018 with the iPhone X being the first immersive screen.

Mind you, big screen could be a great plus. I personally love devices with huge screen as I currently use the Huawei Mate 20x with its giant 7.2 Inch screen but mind you, that giant screen doesn’t me it would exceed the normal smartphone range. Nope.

Placing it beside the old Samsung Galaxy Note 1, it’s almost even. Imagine that.
Since the advent of the notch screen and bezel-lessness, smartphone makers had decided to keep increasing the sizes of their screen while reducing their device’s bezels.

Most high end smartphones in 2019 all have big screens and that’s the fact. But then one can reverse a little bit to previous year. Samsung Galaxy S8 for example has a nice 5.8 inch screen. Although it has a top and chin bezels compared to the 5.8 inch screen of the iPhone X which has no bezels at all around it.

But even the powerful Huawei Mate 20 Pro with its 6.39 inch display still does feel like you’re holding 5.5 inch device.
This is a plus for those with small hands. These devices arẹ easy to grip while your hand can go around the device almost entirely.

But then if you’re like me who uses the smartphone for many things aside taking selfies, then you might as well consider a bug screen device with which you can do a whole bunch of multiple tasking on it.

For example, the Galaxy Note 9 comes bundled with a Stylus Pen with which you can jott things out or take note. It can also be used for creative things such as drawing and so forth. The same goes with the Huawei Mate 20x although it’s M-Pen is sold separately.

The iPhone XS Max on the other end has a big 6.5 inch screen which doesn’t feel uneasy at all but doesn’t have a stylus pen.

Big screens also makes it convenient to play advanced games such as PUBG Mobile and typing is easier done. But depending on your preference, high end smartphone makers have over simplified the process by making double devices (normal screen – giant screens) of each model of their devices. And that is amazing.

6. Hardware and Features

Most smartphones since 2018 and now 2019 have amazing pile up of features that makes them really competitive.

Considering the fact that some of these devices are rated IP68 makes them water and dust resistance.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 for example thrown into a pnd of water survives before 30 minutes. And it’s body frame coating makes it possible for it to resist dusts.

Huawei Mate 20 and P20 devices on the other hand all feature water resistance and dust resistances.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro even can wirelessly charge other smartphones with wireless charging “Wow” that’s such a big plus.

Although 5G technology is relatively new in the smartphone market, it will be a bit hard before one can see a device with such capacity yet although there are already devices with that.

The Honor View 20 by Huawei has 5G. The problem with Huawei is that they’re currently battling against some government over some political involvement and financial scandals which could affect their 5G technology but mind you, Samsung, Oppo, LG and a whole bunch of others are already jumping ship on the 5G technology which is assumed to change our modern world forever.

Aside 5G technology, Huawei smartphones comes with this funny AR technology QMoji which animates your face and then you to a 3D AR character which you can record and send to friends.

Apple’s iPhone XS has this too but its called Animoji. Its basically a 3D emoji that captures your face motions in reality turning you to a cartoon version.

The latest Android 9 isn’t very prominent in devices made in 2018 but some companies promised 2019 would be a year of upgrades. So that shouldn’t be a minus to your decision.

The point is that there are many things that you can consider before purchasing your next smartphone in 2019.
With tons of smartphones in the market already its usually hard to know which one to opt for. But considering your priorities and knowing what you exactly want in a device, there certainly would be those that will offer you those capabilities Even for the price you’re offering.

Mind you, premium smartphones will keep getting expensive every year basically because the competition of dominance is very fierce.

Every smartphone makes wants to upgrade their devices to stay on top of the game and those equipment and hardware they use are extremely expensive.

On the other end, low or mid range smartphones are still worth buying considering how fearure-rich they could be.
