Apple on Tuesday released the much anticipated AirPod Max which is a set of over-ear headphones with a whooping US$549 price tag making it much more expensive than some popular smartphones competing with Apple in the smartphone market.
The endless rumors of Apple working on over-ear headphones has been in the news since late last year and that became more intensified earlier this year as report stated the device could be named the AirPods Studio and so forth. But no one really knew what it would look like or the name of the device until it was announced on Tuesday.
One of the catch of the new AirPods Max is it s20 hours battery life which will make it really superb as the company aims to add this up to their list of Christmas product offerings and shipping will start just next Tuesday. In fact, under 12 hours of the product’s announcement, its shipping time for U.S. consumers is said to have stretched past a dozen weeks which could push arrival time to 2021.
The quality you’ll get from this device will be much more powerful than those from the company’s TWS earbuds such as the AirPods 2 or AirPods Pro because of the better seal around the ear allowing it to deliver a premium audio quality as well as being equipped with bigger and better driver which could make it useful in professional settings.
The AirPods Max model will compete with high-end headphones such as Bose’s Noise Cancelling 700 units, which retail for $340 with holiday discounts.
Even the newly announced iPhone SE released earlier this year can’t match the price tag of the new AirPods Max the same goes with some other Apple products. The base price for the AirPods and AirPods Pro model is said to remain at the same US$159 and US$249 respectively even though consumers though consumers thought the pricing for those products would be slashed up due to the newly introduced device.
According to Apple, the AirPods Max is a high-end headset with 9 microphones and two of its H1 chipsets and custom-designed audio processor. With so many microphones, it’ll be easier for the device to pick up ambient noise and get them processed in order to create the noise cancellation and can also adjust audio levels in real time via its microphones within the ear cups.
The company’s last quarter results showed a rise in sales in its accessories unit, even as revenue from its flagship iPhones dropped 20.7%, the steepest quarterly drop in two years. For the company’s fiscal 2020, accessories sales were up 16% at $53.8 billion, while iPhone sales were down 3% at $137.8 billion.
One of the reasons has been linked to the slight delay in the release of the iPhone 12 series all equipped with 5G technology. But the company doesn’t seems to be backing down as it plans to release its Apple Fitness+ subscription service by December 14th.
