GMC Hummer EV SUV made its debut during the Saturday’s NCAA Final Four game in a commercial featuring NBA star LeBron James. The SUV is built upon the Hummer EV truck which debut last Oct. 2020 and its the new comer in the all-electric portfolio of the American car maker.

The new SUV sports the same look and feel of the Hummer EV truck but without a bed and also comes in a different color option unlike the Edition 1 which is expected to go on sale by Fall 2021.

The new Hummer EV SUV doesn’t compromise on its performance as it also follow the same build principles and target of the original EV truck which is meant to be an off-road all-electric truck which is able to reach a long range as well as its iconic Crab Walk feature which allows the front and rear wheels to steer in the same direction at low speeds for greater maneuverability.

This utility vehicle also has Extract Mode, which should lift the suspension by several inches to provide enhanced ground clearance as well as retaining the large wheels which makes it possible to climb rocky terrains as well as muddy roads.

Though sporting a significantly shorter wheelbase unlike the Hummer EV pickup, the SUV version is still going to be great as a off-road vehicle because it has a slightly smaller size and improved departure and breakover angles.

The features of will be standard on the Hummer EV 2x, 3x and the Edition 1 models. It’s turning radius is tighter which clocks in at a curt 35.4 feet when fitted with four-wheel steering or about 3 feet less compared to an Honda Accord.

To spice up its design differences from the truck, GM added a exterior-mounted spare tire at the back of the vehicle as well as its Infinity Roof with removable Sky Panels which is also the same with the original Hummer EV truck. This gives you even more head room even though there is definitely enough space to transport about five people.

The SUV will be powered by the General Motor’s Utlium Drive System which will give the EV a long range when driven no matter the terrain. Thanks to its 20-module battery pack which promises an estimated driving range of about 300 miles which is the starter pack – when the vehicle is not equipped with the available Extreme Off-Road Pack.

With a smattering of electric motors, the Hummer packs up to an 830-horsepower punch. Torque measures a claimed 11,500 pound-feet, but this figure is misleading since it’s actually wheel torque, not powertrain torque.

Give it a good whippin’, and the 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV should be able to rocket from a standstill to 60 mph in a fleet 3.5 seconds. A top speed number has not been shared yet, but much more information about this all-electric SUV will be released soon.

The Hummer EV SUV will feature 22-inch wheels, assist steps and floor liners which is meant to help keep mud and slop away from the car when driven in extreme environments. There is also the Super Cruise which allow for hands-free driving on some 200,000 miles of supported roadway as well as automatically changing lanes.

If you really want to go dirty, the Extreme Off-Road Pack adds 18-inch wheels encircled by 35-inch mud-terrain tires. You also get underbody armor plating, rock sliders, a front electronic differential locker and virtual rear lockers, HD ball-spline driveshafts and even UltraVision cameras, including some underneath the body for near-360-degree visibility when out on the trail.

The production of the Hummer EV SUV starts by early 2023 while sales is expected to start by 2024 and the pricing could start at about US$105,595 but with the extra Extreme Off-Road Pack, that will add another US$5K to the pricing brining it to US$110,595.
